Which Vehicle Says To The World You're Truly INDEPENDENT?

Hmm this is a tricky question. There is a huge crowd of people looking to buy cars that make them look "independent" and they are... just like every other person who tries to look independent. In all honesty, I think a regular production car won't do it... you would have to go for a street legalized c6r or maybe a legalized formula car?

It depends on the context of the word "independent". Independent from other countries, or just individually idependent?

If it's the former - Ford Expedition

If it's the latter - Subaru Outback

Individually Independent=Something Safe, Fuel efficient, and Reliable. (That means anything: Korean, Japanese, or Ford)

Mentally Independent=Corvettes, Big Boy Diesel Trucks (GMC Suburbans, Dodge Cummins), IROC-Z Camaros, Big German Luxury Sedans, Mustangs, and Big American Grandpa Luxury Sedans.

You really cant count Japanese and Ford too much becuase everybody follows that Trend. Guys like me are the ones starting the Korean Trend, so Id say the Korean cars a lot more than the Japanese or Ford cars.

I think it's better looking than the 1-Series but unfortunately, it doesn't DRIVE and PERFORM like the 1.

BMW and Benz= Hyundais with Monster Engines and Questionable if not rubbish relibality, and superior techonological instruments. With better interior materials; though Hyundai is trying to catch up the most cost effective way possible.

I want automakers to come out with car computers that act like home PCs and Laptops with WiFi connections you can bum off other signals and not pay stupid subscrption plans for, but as standard equipement.

Who cares if my headlights need a windshield wiper, my seats are made of croc skin, and I have a navigation system? LMAO!!!!

By the way when I get an aftermarket carputer I will do a testing regimen and post the results on Autospies, from my carputer.

Who cares my my Turbo Boost pressure is displayed on my windshield, when Id rather have a computer that gets the Weather Channel so I wont be surprised with a sudden Rocky Mountain Blizzard on a 2000 Mile expedition out to the West Coast.

I want to be able to type (Verbally Transcribe) a report for work on my CarPuter while Iam waiting in traffic in Chicago, and then be able to send my boss the report in an email while Im on my way to the beaches in Florida.

Independent and to heck what people think... try an '09 Chevy Cobalt SS sedan. It is criminal how well this car drives and handles for such little money. 001 have you driven one? I am a car snob but this car caught me off guard as the ultimate sleeper. In July 4th spirit, you owe it to yourself to test drive this American bargain.

When people buy a car for a particular image or whatnot, they cease to be independent.

I work at a government entity where people can afford small Luxury cars, yet they cry about the gas prices too becuase their: Audi S4, A3 A4 A5, their Mercedes C-class, their BMW 3 Series cant cut it, huu.

I get questions about Hyundai all of the time now at work. A boss of mines just bought a Hyundai product a couple of months ago. Thats my 2 cents.

Volkswagen Phaeton for sure. Its probably the best luxury sedan in the world, but with a brand associated with cheap cars. To make matters worst, it isn't particularly cheap either. Its certainly not cool enough that everyone wanting to look independent would be buying one (a pretty big group in itself).

nmk1, I think VW can and is going upmarket. Look at how the Golf has changed in 10 years time. Compare a 10 year old Golf to one today. With a Golf like that, Audi doesnt really need to sell their A2 car in the US. They just need a lesser brand like a Skoda or a SEAT to vaildate their purpose in going upmarket. VW wants to be the #1 full line make in America, and VW and Hyundai Will do Battle. The problem is VW doesnt have anything to compete with KIA on terms of price. They have to bring SEAT and or Skoda here. Especially if they continue to plan on selling an $8500 car for the US market within the next 3 years.

At least we at Hyundai have that advantage with having KIA here.

If VW stripped their Polo down to bare Bones, they wouldnt be able to sell it for less than a bare bones no Radio/A/C No Auto Tran Having, No Power anything Accent or Rio. The same price I can see that or maybe even $10-$20 less, but not $1500 less.

Jeep Wrangler. Nothing can compete with it. Freedom from a top on your car. Freedom from having doors. Easy to drive off the beaten bath to get to somewhere fun, like camping. The jeep helped us out in the world wars to help us gain our independence further.
