Which would you choose, new Mercedes C63 Estate or Audi RS6 Avant?
ess than a day after Audi revealed its super-wagon RS6, rival Mercedes-Benz has released official details and images for the wagon variant of the new C63 ahead of its world debut at next week’s Frankfurt Motor Show. Sporting the same powerdome as the saloon, the new AMG Estate packs the same 457hp (336kW) 6.3L V8 and equally aggressive pumped fenders. The high-performance estate accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.6 seconds and is electronically limited to a 250km/h top speed.

The Audi may have the power advantage, but the C63 has the weight advantage. Both cars claim the same acceleration time, so...

I agree with you about Mercedes having the prestige. But the "car enthusiast" argument that BenzW124 keeps bringing up...that's definitley not true. I would venture to say that the average Audi driver cares less about prestige and more about performance than the average MB driver.

Prestige = nothing. If the guys in Stuttgart were making pieces of crap, but they'd still be prestigious. As it is, some Audi models are simply better than their Mercedes-Benz competitors. In most cases they're neck-and-neck.

Have any of you nitwits ever driven a car? Owned one? I have owned three MB's from back when they were quality vehicles, not simply high profile. Since then I was driven away due to poor workmanship and unreliability. Perhaps 20 years ago Mercedes was superior to Audi. Not today. Fit and finish, relability and sportiness are what car enthusiasts look for. Not high profile. You sound like a bunch of suburban teenagers not car guys.

However, based on the pictures online, the 580hp, all weather capability, I would definitely choose the RS6. It really seems like an unbelieveable all around package.

Please, explain to me how using a twin-turbocharged Lamborghini V10 in your performance sedan is "embarrassing."

Obviously, this engine didn't need to be turbocharged. The Gallardo, which is not turbocharged, makes up to 520hp. However, Audi wanted to go above and beyond. Not only make it faster and more precise than anything else in this class- but also with massive potential for more power.

I just can't grasp the mindset that turbocharging is in any way inferior. It's in Audi's history, as with many other brands. It is just as effective as extra displacement and supercharging- or, in most cases, moreso.

People tend to give opinions based on their own experiences. In my neck of the woods, we have snow 5 months out the year. Unless we're talking about a true exotic, I believe when you own a car like the RS6, you want to drive it all year long, and I don't have access to a race track. So hypothetically, I don't care that a Merc. may pull a .90 compared to a .89 skid pad rating. Besides, the Audi skid pad rating would be much better than the C63's in a foot of snow.

JRobUSCJRobUSC - 9/6/2007 6:02:25 PM
-2 BoostDrop the Boost Up the Boost
"the Audi skid pad rating would be much better than the C63's in a foot of snow."

let's examine that statement. First, aside from the stupidity of comparing how good one race car handles in the snow compared to another race car, both of these vehicles, RS6 included, come with performance summer tires. And if you leave those performance summer tires on it, no it won't. Summer tires = no grip in snow, period. Two wheel drive, four wheel drive, eighteen wheel drive, whatever. It's the tires, people, four wheel drive with summer tires in snow just means spinning four tires instead of two.

But please buy an RS6 and then out and show off how much better it can handle in snow, that'll just drive up resale on the other RS6's that are left in the country when you total yours in 10 seconds.

Are you foolish enough to think that an RS6 buyer wouldn't drop winter tires onto the car? As if he can't afford it?

In that case, both excel. The RS6 would be better suited to me, but the C63 AMG deserves respect, and GermanNut, that was a stupid thing to say. Last time I checked, 0-60mph in 4.6 sec is nothing to sneeze at.

brother you can spin it any way you want, but if you want a simple definition of prestige here it is:

Ignore the "fans", throw out the "car geeks". Prestige is what you have when people who don't really know anything about cars have the preconceived notion that one brand is more high class than another.

The very simple truth here is unless you roll up in an Audi R8, a Benz is looked at as a more prestigious car by the general public. Period. End of story. Cry all you want about it, it won't make it less true.

If fact I know personally most hot girls on South Beach are not impressed with audi, some do not know what a Audi is?
Did you know that Audi came up with the idea of leasing their A8 sedans for free to movie stars in order to raise the Audi profile. Research on google I am 100% certain.

Audi has prestige, Audi has panache, Audi may not have clout in the United States but the United States does not include the rest of the world you idiot. Audi is going to outsell Mercedes within the next year or two at maximum (the brand with the cachet)

Please, lets recap and put together what a real thought well educated on this would be. The rs6 is rivaled to the E 65 and M5, The Mercedes Company Daimler-Benz started oficially and on a constant basis Marketing their cars to the public in collaboration of Mr. Daimler in 1926 http://www.mercedesforum.com/mercedes-benz/history.asp Even though Mr. Karl Benz had been designing cars in the 1890's the cars did not take on the Tri-star logo. Bmw was officially founded as a company in 1922, and did not even start producing cars until 1929. Audi's Roots with Mr. August Horch who was building cars in 1901, and later founded the Audi name with the Auto Union in 1910. Producing and Marketing cars to the public.

If you were to ask any historian, a well educated one even, the answer on which company has more "prestige" would be AUDI. Because of it's roots starting in days prior that of BMW and Benz, and producing cars that carried quality craftsmanship from the begining, Thats always been audi's goal. If i recall well, Audi has never tried to take on Design cues or performance advances from any Auto maker, period.

If you want to talk uber lux and cars that get attention you wont buy any of these Brands, and Roll with elite brands like Bentley or Bugatti. Of which both have more "prestige" than any of these makers combined. Especially the buggati.. prior to the veyron, eb 110.

History is history whether or not it is twisted depends on what words and facts are used in or out of context..
The fact is that Audi not under the Horch name was producing marketable cars to the public in 1910, in 1920 (before BMW) was already producing well established Luxury cars , if you dont believe me wikipedia it.

Horch worked for Benz left and formed audi, well before Bmw was even an idea.

Mercedes has more roots than anything else over audi, Audi has foundation as an idependent company establishment Before Mercedes benz aka real name Daimler-Benz.
In justice, there is NO argument that Karl Benz was a pioneer for excellence in engine and automotive engeneering, But i would say that Daimler-Benz has no more Prestige in Automobiles than Audi for the simple fact that they were introduced in the early 1900's as luxury cars, and still to this day are introduced sport and luxury cars.
Bmw is just pure sport, pure rush, their amazing designs, but they dont carry the same history line (prestige) as Benz or Audi for that matter.

Oh and By the way it was Porsche who first introduced a public all wheel drive car in 1901, AND Volkswagen wasnt making any chasis or design but the Beetle or type 1 until 1960 when it came out with the notchback and the audi 60 shared no length or design cues from the notchback!

Please...
