Who Are The Movers And Shakers Of The European Market? Some Of You Might Be Surprised

Who are the movers and shakers in the European markets?

Most of us pretty well know who the leaders are in the United States, but when it comes to lay of the land across the pond many of you can't begin to name the players much less tell us how well they were doing. The consumers in this market place not only require quality and performance, but overall economy to match. A very tough nut to crack indeed, and something that many makers struggle with on a continual basis.

So with out further ado here are the first 6 months European sales to set the record straight on who those leaders really are across the pond.

I'm not surprised at all. I've always known VW is the leader there.

Audi is (barely) beating BMW in Europe right now, but Mercedes-Benz is about 20,000 cars ahead... or one entire Lexus half-year ahead, LOL.

Well you can also look at it as SMART virtually outsells Lexus 2 to 1. It all depends on your viewpoint.

But I included the breakdown so the figures won't be distorted.

You guys seriously don't know anything about the Euro market.

-Diesels rule in Europe. The majority of vehicles (luxury brands too) are sold as diesels. Lexus only has one diesel model, it's also a relatively new brand (lack of dealers etc). Those 21,000-odd sales are most likely the IS 220d.

-Take into account patriotism. Fiats mostly sold in Italy, French brands in France and the same with Germany. In their countries these brands have deep historical links - 2 world wars, reconstruction efforts etc

I don't understand your post. When did we contradict these points (or even mention them)? Or are you just trying to make excuses for Lexus's lack of success?

I wish a breadown of exactly which vehicles sold were listed.
I see that Toyota is making huge sales in Europe as well.

considering the cheapo C-class and Smart, and the fact that full boat Camrys and Avalons are fully equivalent if not SUPERIOR both mechanically and in appointments, Lexus AND Toyota ought to be considered together.

MB, GM, and Toyota are all FULL LINE mfgrs, making everything from econoboxes to luxobarges. so Lexus-Toyota actually outsells MB even in Europe, to say nothing of the rest of the planet.

the above listing by MANUFACTURERS and TOTAL sales acknowledges this grouping.

yes, toyota is still beat out by gm, ford, vw, and others. but MB and BMW fanbois really have NO basis for dissing lexus sales figures in europe. which also, even taken OUT of the context of manufacturer, still beats out jaguar.
