Who Makes The Best Luxury/Sports Car For Summer Under $60k?
So you're at the Memorial Day BBQ and your friend says...
I know you're BIG into cars, so I need your recommendation on what SUMMER car to buy for myself.
Doesn't have to be a convertible, I just need your expertise to help me decide how I should spend this 60K burning a hole in my pocket.
The only catch is it cannot total OVER $60k, fully equipped.
And you don't have to spend it all.
So what's your recommendation?
Just remember if they hate it, NO MORE free food and booze at the neighborhood BBQ and they'll tell all the neighbors, you don't know JACK about cars!
So choose wisely!

Good question!
Ask EL34, he has almost all of the $60k matchbox cars in his toy collection.
Hopefully, his mom taught him how to share!
Anything BMW and Infiniti below $60k will do just fine.

Are you serious? If it was even true that Lexus made the best sport/luxury anything, how would you even pick the IS250 over the IS350? For Sixty grand, you can have little more imagination.

the IS250 has the best slalom times. per my screenname, that IS a feature that rates highly.
the is250 also came in 2nd in its class in the next to last Nurburgring race. beating out a whole slew of bmw m cars.

Boxster is overdone.
Between Cayman and 135i... I would have to say 135i, because it's faster, and you can take a few friends.

Actually, I agree. Not necessarily that it's the best summer car, but that you would have to spend $100K to get something truly superior. Porsche 911, Audi R8, etc.

I could definatly see the coupe. The sedan does not say "summer" to me, and the convertible hard-top has a bit on an aesthetic issue that I wouldn't wish on anyone.
The M3 coupe would be great, but to keep it under 60K it can't really have any options except the color choices.

Well, without any other information, such as age, preferences (some people like mustangs), or if he is married or has children who will need a place to sit, I would say:
S5
The S5 is shades of sporty for the summer, yet unlike most of the cars that pop to mind, has a back seat in the event that it is needed (has kids). It is well equipped for $57,715, and looks very sharp in that meteor gray color. In addition, it is probably a little more acceptable to the wife for the practicality reasons.
It is a shame the CTS Coupe isn't out yet so I could have considered it.

I would have to choose the C63, the power makes it fun, there is room for four, good stereo, and exciting when in the hands of a good driver.
I would choose the upcoming S5 Cabrio but thats not even close to out yet as far as we know.

"luxury sports car for summer" to me is a car that's best driven, and being "luxury", means that badging is quite important.
Only the following makes sense to me, in order of preference:
1. Porsche Boxster S, base price in your choice of colors is under $60,000
2. Audi TT convertible
3. "pre-owned" M3 convertible
It's summer and these are the cars I'd drive on a warm summer evening.

The best cars for the summer special occasion are classic cars in my opinion.
The problem is that the two that immediately come to my mind and are my person likes, have a little difficulty with the $60K limit.
Again, they are just what I would like, but I am talking about an E-type roadster and an XK120. The latter if it runs and doesn't have cosmetic issues runs about 150K. The former can be found for less than 60K, but only in the bad years. The earlier years ('61-'62 and a little later I think) were created without the compromises to the front in the name of safety, are more beautiful and command higher prices.

For 60K it's hard to get anything here in Vancouver, BC. Prices here are much higher than those in the States.
For example our 328i with sport package & premium package with leather seats will run me about $58-59k before taxes. We have luxury tax as well ontop of the regular taxes.
So the C63 can't even fit in this under $60K category.
Our Acura TL type S is already into the 50's after taxes so go figure how much the more expensive luxury cars will cost. Heck the TSX is already into the low 40's after tax.

Not free. People who are employed and have medical/dental coverage still pay for it in some way or another. It's plans that the company offer to their workers that make it such a perk for working in Canada. Somehow the economy balances out because cars and other items cost so much.

The Boxster is like the Porsche's of the old days if you look back at their line up. However, the only non-Porsche CAR that i'll buy would be the Cayman S. I've test driven it. I like how it handles and feels on the road. Lots of feedback and quick too.

I think he said that because Agent001 stipulated you had to be able to get a loaded version of whatever you pick for under $60k.
I'd get a 335i/xi Coupe and slap the Dinan software on it. Second choice would be an S5. If I needed four doors I'd get a 535i, or see how loaded a $60k E550 is. Probably not very.
