Who Stole A Top Secret Porsche Engine?
According to the Google translated article several engines including a top secret motor were stolen from Porsche over the weekend from the Porsche R&D center in Weissach. One of them being a next generation motor.

The details are a bit vague at this time, but initial reports are indicating several have been arrested including some Porsche employees. The engines apparently surfaced at the German tuner Techart and Porsche has already filed criminal charges against two senior executives. According to local newspapers Techart has used some parts of that engine prototype for further evaluation after they discovered the engine to be a prototype but facts are still sketchy in public.

Maybe some of our European readers can tip us off with some more details as they surface, but in the mean time any of you care to speculate?

You know, I was thinking the same thing since we know they've lately been involved in spying from Ferrari and many other shady deals.

Actually Volkswagen owns Audi, and Porsche has a 31% stake in Volkswagen. Even though the Touareg and Cayenne share the same parts, the companies are not the same.

Should really get your facts right, silly Homer.

yes we all know porsche ownes 31 % of VW but they are as close to the same company as you can have. OK ok they are inlaws

It is funny how people are so quick to point out VW's relationship with Audi but they dismiss Porsche's.

Something doesn't make sense here. Porsche NEVER delivers engines (like you Americans have crate engines) directly to tuners..

But I would love to know that that top secret engine is!

what engine does Audi borrow from Porsche? The V10 is a great engine but I guess you didn't know Audi developed that engine for Lambo and the S8/ S6 share only the bottom of the engine. The Lambo doesen't have the FSI yet (but they will)

Go away idiot

From what I read around, several German Porsche owners replied to this same topic that the engines were stolen and 'sold' to a tuning firm, which the police siezed at Böblingen, which TechArt is located in town within Böblingen. It is speculative to say that TechArt may be responsible. TechArt may have a little too much information about Porsche's so-called revolutionary engine and considering how tight-lip Porsche is, this could have large implications on TechArt as the lawsuit being filed against them will be titanic, in which will likely spell the end of the tuner if Porsche wins its case.

"Techart says they bought the stuff with a bill and thought everything was ok, but found out, that the engine wasn't the promised 997 Turbo engine, but something else (they were fascinated), so they gave it back to the dealer, and it was found there."

That just doesn't make any sence! TechArt is a tuner, not a constructor (like Alpina or RUF). Porsche also NEVER delivers their engines to tuners or anybody. You will have to buy the full car.

I'm hoping that Porsche set this thing up to be stolen in order to send competition on a wild technical goose chase with a design that will not work.

What do you mean that Porsche doesn't sell stand-alone engines? what are you supposed to do if you blow up the one that came with your car? BMW makes a nice business out of selling replacement S52 and S62s.
