BMW's M1 is back! And drivers can expect stunning design, impressive fuel economy and incredible performance to come as standard with the new model due on sale in 2012.



It will be based on the Vision EfficientDynamics concept, BMW’s star of the Frankfurt Motor Show, and Auto Express’s exclusive images reveal how the newcomer will look.

With an ultra-low ride height, active aerodynamics and an aggressive rear end, there will be no shortage of visual drama. Inside, there will be two-plus-two seating, and the low-slung driving position will be surrounded by cutting-edge technology, including a digital dash and multimedia connectivity.

IN the design form i would have to wait untill I see in person because some of BMW's recent designs havent been eye candy for me. but if its going to be based on the Vision EfficientDynamics concept it may be a stunning car. If its going to be an M1 I think its just going to be a M based car as Mercedes did with the SLS AMG.

As for performance BMW always raises the bar in the performance sector which I think will definitley revolutionize the market. They always put together a top notch perfomance package and now that the M5 is getting the KERS system in the NEW M5 (HOPEFULLY) I am sure they will bring this over to the M1 making it the car to beat when it comes out. We all pretty much know the M1 is going to be a competitor for the R8....so audi yall need to stay on your TOES

b) BMW hasn't confirmed will ever exist, and
c) BMW actually previously said would NOT exist, and
d) if it did exist using todays technology would cost an absolute fortune to build and sell
revolutionize the segment?" Hmmm, what a genuinely purposeful question. Sure, absolutely, I suppose if by some miracle BMW could actually build a 2500lb four seat diesel hybrid all-wheel drive sports car with a .22 drag coefficient that gets 62mpg while pumping out 360hp and 590lb-ft that ran 0-60 in 4 seconds that didn't cost about a zillion dollars, yes, it would totally revolutionize the segment...

JRobUSC: Your logic ...I belive is final...It won't exist, cause by that time they will be thinking in how to recover the investment on the X6, 5GT and 3GTs that won't sell enouth to be profitable so..if the M1 comes to life as a production model...thal will be on....may be 2015 or beyond, if the europeans brands do not have problems as the american car companies.

how is BMW playing catch up with the R8 (WHICH IS A LAMBO GALLARDO IN MY OPINION). BMW does NOT need to play catch up you know you people knock BMW every time they try something new and not do the same boring shyt all the time like these other companies. BMW always go outside the box and set standards for the rest. alright so what audi beat BMW to the table with the R8 so what. they took a engine out of an exotic car company they own and took the dimesions of the car and made it an AUDI....WOW a whole lot of planning going on there.....now if BMW is going to make a competitor car they are going to do it from the ground up and then slap a 6 figure price tag on it because it was built from scratch pretty much and it would cost them more to build it than taking an engine and design and making it their own. But of course everyone knocks BMW but after a year or 2 everyone and their grandmother wants it.....if you want an example the previous 7 series, the current 6 series, the current 5 series, the X5 shall i keep going ,............

The ugly R8 in fact totally changes my perception of AUDI. Now I can see it dethroning BMW by incorporating Porsche's engineering with focused product planning, offering proper driver's sports car, not some hybrid cliche leaded by TOYOTA and HONDA. Once AUDI offers RWD I'll be very happy to give it a try.

e34: I agree w/ your first sentence, but I don't think it can destroy mid-engined R8 or Godzilla GT-R. Design? Yes, easy. Those 2 are ugly. But when it comes to sports BMW is so behind, owning nothing to compete w/ Cayman for handling or GT-R for lap time. Bimmer's all about sport sedan. No less, no more.
