Will The BMW M10 Have A V12?
The Concept CS shown by BMW at the recent Shanghai Auto Show is widely rumored to be the next hot big bimmer. Details about the car are now leaking out, including word that it will probably be powered by a V-12 derivative of the current V-10 used in the M5 and M6. The possibility exists, however, that it will merely get a blown version of that same V-10 engine. Either way, the car is expected to be a rear wheel drive two door, with power substantially more than 500 hp. Read Article

Yes, a nasty and hideous front end. Actually the whole thing is nasty and hideous. I hope it won't become a production car. Hate to see it on the road.

What a surprise departure from the original Bangle influence. Has Bangle changed or was he forbidden to pen this one? I love that nasty front end. Looks like a giant automotive pak-man about to gobble up everything else on the road.

What a lame leak... I've heard rumors for months aboutBMW developing a V12 engine for the next generation M5 in order to, once again, turn the tables on the upcomming RS6. And the "M10" will probably be where we see it first!
As to the speculations about using turbines for the BMW I can only laugh! BMW have never used a forced induction engine in an M-car and they won't do it any time soon. That would completely break with the concept of the M-cars... Audi have been known for their turbo engines therefore, using forced induction won't affect their RS-cars' image.

When will BMW make an M7?

Never have and probably never will...

It would mean developing and insanely powerful engine, and giving good dynamics in a car that size is against M-ethos, leading to the wrong compromise and a car not worthy of the M badge.
That's basically what BMW say if you ask.

BMW's policy is if you wouldn't take the car to a track BMW won't make an M version. That doesn't mean they won't make a 500+hp V12 version of the next 7-series when it comes out next year, but it won't be badged an M. It'll just be a very fast and very capable luxury sedan, like the S63, S600, Audi S8, etc.

Dre, the "M Sport X5" was just an X5 4.6is or X5 4.8is, depending on year. They had a couple of M trim bits but they were not M models. BMW has never made an M version of the X5. I'd love them to, if it were up to me they'd M everything, or at least come out with a really high performance version of everything. If Mercedes can sell an AMG R-class minivan for crying out loud then certainly BMW could pump up the X5, X3, and 7 to compete with the ML63, MLKwhatever, and S63/S8.

BMW never said they wouldn't make a turbo car, the fans did... And the X5 M is just an X5 with a fancy dress kit. BMW have said however that they will never make an M7...

Sailor, I doubt BMW would put a twelve-cylinder in the M5. It's too large, and really just ridiculous. The next step should be weight reduction- they (as in M, RS, AMG) don't need hideously powerful 8,000hp engines in 10,000lb "sport" sedans.

Yeah I hope & don't think a V-12 will probably ever make it into the M5. I wouldn't be surprised if BMW just updated the current V-10 to put out an extra 50-80 hp to take on the RS6, they'll need it seeing as the M5's lost to the S6 in most comparison tests...However mostly for reasons only the SMG can answer.

Probably the engine they stold from Porsche..LOL..JK,,
Whatever engine they put in there will be an awsome engine, but my bets go for a modified version of the V-10.

@ MunichRob

I think you are right. Racing Dynamics can squeeze 640HP from the V10 motor, so there's no strong reason to switch to the V12 so soon.

Also, when will BMW come out with a mid-engine car? That's the rumor I want to read about.

I heard rumors that BMW will upgrade the M5's V10 to stay competitive with cars like the RS6 and E63. It will likely produce from 20-80 extra hp.
Personally I want the V10 to stay in the M5.

Well the M3's new V8 is basically a shortened version of the M5's V10, so they conceivably could go the other way and bung an extra 2 cylinders on to make a 6 litre V12.

Let us not forget the the mighty Mclaren F1 was powered by what is now a 15 year old BMW engine design, that had in excess of 620bhp from a naturally aspirated V12... makes you wonder why they don't just keep making that engine (S70B60 I think??)
