iPhone 2.0 and BMW iDrive address book not syncing
The new iPhone 3G or any first generation iPhone running the latest 2.0 update, will stop your BMW iDrive from seeing your iPhone’s contacts list.

Basically, all the iPhones running the 1.0 to 1.1.4 software version should connect perfectly to BMW's integrated bluetooth and the contacts should appear on your iDrive screen or on your radio display, for those of you that did not order the BMW Nav System.

In the same time, the new iPhone and BMW factory integration kit don't work quite well. Most of the functions work fine, it will play and control the iPhone. So, the integration seems to be flawless, until you realize that your phone is NOT charging when using the A/C adapter. This has to be a deal breaker for a lot of people, especially those that were looking to upgrade their iPhone 2G which works perfect.

So, it seems like the new 2.0 software is not ready yet for us the bimmer fans.

yeah going with BMW means you must have a minimalist mentality... just look their sparse interiors.

auto001, why do you hate driving? BMW's objective is merely to deliver joy to the driver. The only way I can understand you hating BMW is that you hate driving and/or you hate cars in general. You should find a new place in cyberspace to spend all of your time. This place is for people who love cars.

BTW, posters are saying that 2.0 works fine with the first gen iPhone.

My new iPhone 3G works flawlessly with the bluetooth in my iDrive equipped 2007 335i coupe. The address book loads and the sound quality is perfect. No problems yet.

Don't know about the 2.0 update, but the new 3G works great with BMW's.

I have the iPhone 3G and it works perfectly in my 2008 M3, not a problem at all. I am surprised about how fast the battery on the new phone goes dead, but other than that the phone is great.

Goes dead faster because of the 3G. Turn off 3G when you don't need it, and you will not only get better voice signal, but your battery will last longer.

Do you actually own one or are you just a hater who makes ignorant comments based on some warped perspective?

I own the iPhone and think it is one of the most amazing things I have ever owned--and I don't say that lightly. The 2.0 software and new apps have made it even more valuable.

My ihone 3G and M3, 335, 750 work perfectly! LOL

Woah!, apparently there is some correlation between owning a BMW and owning an iphone. So I can assume that every iphone I see on someone means they drive a BMW or vice versa?

Never was a fan of the iphone, used my friends a few times for text and such but I can't stand not feeling actual buttons when texting. Makes you look down more when driving.

Those are the same reasons that BMW doesn't use touch screens in their cars.

ive got an 08 335 and the 3G iPhone works great with it

the battery does die fast on the new one though, go into general settings and turn off 3G and wifi unless you are using it and it will last a lot longer (it wont affect email, phone calls, etc... just download speeds until you turn it on). That being said i am wildly impressed by the iphone, the virtual key board was not nearly as difficult as i had anticipated. Blackberrys are officially a thing of the past.

Also - read the full article from the link, he is NOT referengin a US issue.

The author of the article said a) he's having problems with his 330d and b) he downloaded the non-official 2.0 software update from Apple before it was in general release.

@3seriesguy, I am the one who wrote the original post which was picked up by BMWBlog and subsequently Autospies, so when you refer to the "full article from the link" I am guessing you are refering to my blog?

Yes you are correct, I am not USA based I am based in the UK and the car is a UK BMW E60 M5 running iDrive (CCC) software v27 (not sure where you got the 330d from?)

You are also correct in stating that I had installed an early release of the iPhone2.0 software from the Apple Developers Download area. To see if that was the cause I have wiped the iPhone and reinstalled via iTunes the following day giving me the official consumer release version (which as it happens is build 2.0[5A347], the same as the developer release the day before).

I am happy to see that many people are not experiencing the same issue, including yourself, and I've noticed that most who have it all working at in 2008 cars although there are a few with 2008 X5's who are reporting the same problem.

Hate the iPhone 3G. I might go back to previous generation. Voice signal is far worse on 3G, so while downloads maybe faster, what I really need it for (a phone) is horrible.

When I disable 3G, I get full signal. When I enable 3G, signal goes down to 0-1 bar, and calls keep dropping. And I am in the middle of Los Angeles, where I should get perfect signal.

Hi,

I just bought a 2008 335i convertible BMW and, of course, my one year old Motorla Q doesn't work. I am willing to buy an iPhone (always wanted one but I have Verizon)and change carriers BUT I want to know for sure if the iPhone will sync with my new car. Does anyone have my exact model and year PLUS a 3G iPhone that works?

John
