Subaru is considering whether to allow an exception and adopt rear-wheel-drive for its upcoming sports coupe. Its cars have typically been all-wheel-drive but Michael McHale, Subaru of America spokesman, told Ward’s Auto that if the core of the brand is unaffected then it would be an “interesting option.” What’s stopping Subaru is the possibility that bringing the car here as a rear-wheel drive sports car will alienate the Subaru faithful, who look at all-wheel-drive as a brand hallmark.
