Although the 2010 Detroit Auto Show was not the most impressive display of the automotive pornography, it did show one thing very clearly; the state of the industry. Do not become gullible because many of the presidents and chief executives are grinning and saying "things are fine!"
But, that does not mean the show was without its top picks. No matter how terrible a show can be, you can guarantee that there will be one car that stands out amongst the masses. In this case, there were two.
Why two?
001 and I were torn because there were two prevailing themes with our choices, realism and sheer beauty. So, we gave you a taste of what is likely to come and what may not be so possible.

For realism, we agreed that the 2012 Ford Focus was the best car -- and one of the few -- to make a debut. It is a much improved design over past iterations and it is certainly going to be built. The great thing about this particular automobile is that it will be taking Ford in the right direction. Now, the company has finally come around to grasping the greatness of their global efforts and will be bringing all of their world's teams to work together on future products. The Focus is the first global effort. Interior quality has been stepped up substantially with impressive materials and a clean integration.

As lover's of all things automotive, it did not take very long for the Spies to come to the conclusion that Audi's Detroit Showcar eTron was the most stunning example at the 2010 North American International Auto Show. Whether or not it will be produced remains up in the air, but fear not, because rumors have been circulating that this car -- or its styling themes -- will be making an appearance in a baby "R."
We say bring it on.
If you question the Audi as a top pick, take one look at the interior and 001's favorite, the faux knock-off wheels. It appears as though the interior is one piece of leather! It really is a triumph of automotive design and style.
Congratulations to both marques. You both have managed to come up with compelling products to bring a smile to an auto enthusiast's face.
What do you think of the Spies picks? Two thumbs up or two thumbs down?
