US auto sales rose by 24% last month due to heavy incentives. As the industry continues to improve, Subaru, Nissan, Toyota and Ford recorded gains with the exception of two automakers.

Last month, 1,066,339 light vehicles were sold last month. Toyota Motor Corp. leads the list of carmakers that raised incentive spending in March to levels that are comparable to their all-time peak a year ago. The difference is that this time, consumers took advantage of these incentives. George Magliano, head of North American forecasting for IHS Global Insight, said that a year ago, the incentives didn’t work but they’re raising sales now because the economy is stronger and this supports a return to the market.
