After spending a week with the 2010 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG there are two specific aspects that seem to resonate: refinement and a rancorous exhaust note.

And judging from Mercedes' history and this video it appears that these attributes will carry over to the next-generation CLS63 AMG.

Word on the street suggests the car will be propelled by the new 5.5L AMG powerplant and not the current 6.2L naturally aspirated V8. If this is true that means the new CLS63 will have nearly 40 more horsepower and over 125 lb-ft of torque. That means a lot of heads will be pushed HARD into the headrests.

Judging from the video, it sounds like the motor will be coupled with the 7-speed MCT transmission.

**Note: The new AMGs have that distinct whip-cracking sound on up/downshifts.


It won't be long before Mercedes-Benz pulls the covers off the second generation of its slinky CLS sports saloon codenamed C218, but for now, we can offer you a spy video of the racy AMG version shot in and around the Nurburgring circuit.

Despite the fact that the hottest version of the CLS family will retain the CLS 63 AMG moniker, the car won't get the naturally aspirated 6.2-liter V8 engine. Instead it will be propelled by the Stuttgart's newly developed 5.5 liter bi-turbo V8 powerhouse...
