Does this seem to make sense to you? Chrysler Group is going to be sending the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee to Japan.

It is definitely a head scratcher because last time I checked the Japan seems to appreciate small cars and are very conscious of emissions levels. Yeah, yeah, the 2011 Grand Cherokee when equipped with a V6 can get approximately 30 percent better fuel economy than the V8 but is that really saying all that much?

Additionally, TTAC states that Japanese sales are at "boutique status," only at 1,800 for 2009. The plans are to boost that number to 5,000 by 2014 with aid of the Grand Cherokee. Assuming a simple growth rate, it seems that it could be possible but I could say the same about any forecasted number and any new model launch.

It really comes down to this; is the 2011 Grand Cherokee the car the Japanese are looking for?

And for the first time, I do not have the answer to that!


Chrysler's taking a page out of Ford’s playbook and will surprise and delight Japan with their  “latest version of the Jeep Grand Cherokee sport utility vehicle, which features Chrysler’s new Pentastar 3.6-liter V-6 engine,” if The Nikkei is not mistaken.

Chrysler Japan has hopes  for the new Grand Cherokee that was just release in the U.S. As a nod to the thrifty and CO2 conscious Japanese, Chrysler points out that the Pentastar V6, gives the Grand Cherokee boasts 30 percent better fuel economy t
han the existing Grand Cherokee with a 4.7-liter V-8 engine. Overabundant horsepower will be sacrificed...
