VW Group CEO Martin Winterkorn has told MT that the next generation Audi A2 will use Volkswagen group’s New Small Family platform, the same platform that has produced many concepts in recent years, including the Vw Up! CityCar.
“Audi, Seat, and Skoda will join the NSF, too,” Winterkorn says. The Seat and Skoda brands are for Europe and developing markets, while the Audi would be more global, Winterkorn said.
With its expensive all-aluminum construction, the new Audi A2 will be more lighter than A1, and will come with a narrow aero shape that will make him extremely fuel-efficient. Moreover, key to the new A2’s position will be electrification:An EV is the headline power-train, plus a diesel hybrid for European markets.
