Many in the auto industry have been using fleet sales to increase the sales volume while there are a few who only report retail sales. This practice is being compared to the excitement in baseball a few years ago when the use of steroids had boosted the performance of players tremendously. The top hitters who resisted steroids were believed to be losing their skills and when “juicing” was exposed, fans felt betrayed. The competition in the auto industry is tough and companies have taken to fleet sales to bulk up their volume.
