If you thought that the 2012 Chevrolet Camaro would not benefit from the use of a LSA or LS9 motor, you've thought wrong. C'mon, you think Chevrolet was going let that go to waste?

According to a Camaro5 forum user, there has been confirmation through a dealer's meeting that there will be a high horsepower Camaro Z28 with a 6.2-liter V8 powerplant. We assume it will be an LSA motor as seen in the CTS-V, which produces 556 horsepower.

Now that the CTS-V has taken on the Audi S6, BMW M5 and Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG, will the Camaro Z28 be an RS5, M3, upcoming C55/63 competitor?

Camaro5 says:

Here are the confirmed details from the meeting:

  • 2012 Camaro Z28 production begins January 1, 2012
  • Internally referred to as the "HP Edition" model
  • 6.2L supercharged engine
  • Magnetic Ride suspension
  • 285F / 330R tires
  • Hood design to have louvre/slat design seen in spy photos (dealers in attendance were shown a gray Z28 model)
  • Slight (not major) updates to the interior, with some brighter trimwork
