Well, well, well. It looks like BMW's X5M and Porsche Cayenne Turbo is going to have some more competition in form of the 2012 Mercedes-Benz ML 63 AMG. Spotted by really good spy photographers on the ground, the M-Class sport-utility vehicle was nabbed while undergoing testing.

Although it clearly has camouflage in order to throw us off, it's pretty clear that this beefy-looking SUV is going to carry over some of Mercedes' design language in a slick package. It's not so much a revolution as it is an evolution of the current-generation M-Class.

Given that AMG has put out its new forced induction, bi-turbo 5.5-liter motor, we suspect that will be shoehorned under the bonnet. As Carscoop says, it's a safe bet power comes in somewhere between 525 and 557 horsepower.

...While the precise output of the biturbo V8 on the ML 63 AMG is not known yet, chances are the lump will deliver somewhere close to the 525HP and 516 lb-ft / 700Nm in normal guise, and 557HP and 590 lb-ft / 800Nm with the optional AMG Performance package, it does on the 2012 CLS 63 AMG sports saloon.

Despite the increase in power, the new bi-turbocharged V8 will be more fuel efficient and emit less CO2 than its predecessor. The German company’s latest AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission will handle the delivery of power to all four wheels...
