The Diesel Driver reports from the new VW factory on the Passat TDI and drives a TDI from Chattanooga to Nashville.

"Earlier this week, I drove the TDI from the factory in Chattanooga to Nashville, a 173 mile (278 km) drive that took a little less than four hours with a stop in Lynchburg to sample some Jack Daniels ice cream and brownies.

The V-6 turbo diesel is the same found in other VW TDI models and it was smooth and responsive. The 236 pound-feet of torque made for quick acceleration and allowed us to easily overtake slower moving traffic (of which there was a lot, mostly in the left lane) on Tennessee’s highways. The DSG transmission was responsive and answered quickly to kickdown requests."
