After watching a thrilling race at Lime Rock Park, the 2011 ALMS Northeast Grand Prix came to a close with battles between the prototype and GT classes. But at the end of the race, only one can take the top place.

In the prototype class, the Lola-Mazda fought long and hard against the Muscle Milk Lola-Aston Martin. Eventually, Dyson Racing's Mazda-powered car took home the "W" and called it a night.

Guy Smith and Chris Dyson were able to hold onto their lead initially but the Aston-powered Lola would make its way ahead. That was short lived, however, as the race car was caught up in a bad situation with a Porsche 911 GT3 Cup Car. After gaining control from their spin out, the Lola-Aston just couldn't claw back in time to seal the deal as the Mazda lead the way from that point forward.

For the GT cars though it was pretty painful to watch Flying Lizard Motorsports' 911 GT3 RSR just see the back of the BMW M3 driven by Joey Hand and Dirk Muller all day long. Unfortunately, the Porsche just couldn't make its way ahead of the M3 throughout the race -- things didn't get any better when tire damage forced the GT3 into the pits with only three laps remaining.

With that said, BMW took the top place and chalked up another victory.

So, three cheers to Mazda and BMW for earning their wins!
