I remember the first time I watched Burt Reynolds in Canonball Run. I thought "Man, this is genius!" Of course it was a little absurd but it was also an 80s movie; everything was ridiculous then.
Then soon enough the Gumball 3000 came along. It's mission was to revive the spirit of the original rallies but have a helluva lot of fun doing it. That meant a party in every city where there was a stop off. So, I guess you can say that wasn't exactly living up to the original.
From that point, there was a splintering of even more rallies. Take, for example, the now notorious Bullrun or how about the Player's Run, which had its last news update back in 2008.
Simply put, it seems that with every new form of a "run" the real point of the rally becomes more diluted and more dangerous.
With that said, it just seems that rallies, particularly Bullrun, has just become a get together for idiots to drive obscenely fast and risk the lives of innocents. Or, have we got it all wrong? These run's aren't filled with a cavalcade of douchebags.
