If there is one car that stands for everything that is not completely gearheaded and against many of the great aspects of driving, I am sure many would agree that the Toyota Prius is the icon. Although I don't subscribe to that bandwagon, it's what I have heard time and time again.
There is something about hybrids and electric cars that people can't grasp. Maybe it's the quiet factor and that it has no "soul," or can't go zero to 60 in warp speed.
But what if that all changed and Toyota built a Prius with aggressive looks and it had a better drive? Imagine a two-seater vehicle that can get upwards of 50 mpg yet still give you a nervous chuckle.
According to AutoExpress that's in the works.
The Prius family is growing again. Toyota is already set to bring the seven-seater Prius Plus to UK showrooms early next year – but Auto Express can reveal that it’s also planning to launch a trio of all-new models in the next three years as it moves to turn the Prius into a standalone brand. This bold step will see hybrids sold through specific dealers by 2014.
That’s when the replacement for the current Prius saloon is due to arrive, and our illustrations show the cars that will join it in these new franchises.
