Since the launch of the Chevrolet Volt, I have always wondered why General Motors didn't decide to launch a Cadillac version first. After all, with a larger profit margin, perhaps it could reap back more of the Research and Development costs, plus have a bit of a "sex" factor that the Volt clearly lacked.
After all, the Volt went from being a badass, squared-off concept to a tame and pedestrian-looking Chevy Civic. Though Chevrolet claims it was due to aerodynamics, the reality is that initial concept set design expectations ridiculously high.
Now though GM will finally be getting sexy back as the ELR, which is derived from the Converj, has been given the green light for production.
Sources are saying it will have the same powertrain as the Chevrolet Volt, which isn't much of a surprise.
The range extending Cadillac ELR has been confirmed for production. The ELR will be built alongside the Chevrolet Volt at GM’s Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly plant from late next year.
The Cadillac ELR is described as “a luxury coupe featuring extended-range electric technology,” by Mark Reuss, President of GM North America.
Reuss added: “The ELR will be in a class by itself, further proof of our commitment to electric vehicles and advanced technology,”
