Until the all-new Porsche 911 (991) came along, it was pretty easy to make an argument against picking one of those suckers up. Some say it was soulless, others said it was unoriginal.

But given that the 991 makes such a significant improvement, I don't foresee that being a problem anytime soon.

For the doubters though, there will always be other alternatives. And, according to the latest reports, Maserati looks like it is making its move to be one of them.

Imagine a mid-engined Maserati based on the Alfa Romeo 4C's chassis equipped with a forced-induction V6 or bi-turbo V8? Sounds pretty exciting and beastly if you ask me. Given the specifications of the all-new Quattroporte's motor, I think things are just starting to heat up at Maserati.


Maserati looks set to launch a mid-engined rival for the Porsche 911 by 2015. It will be offered with both V6 and V8 power and will get a chassis based on that of the forthcoming Alfa 4C...
