Hey! Do you remember that time we had those fantastic, revealing shots of the all-new S-Class and the three-pointed star made us take them down? I do.

Anyway.

Spotted traveling on the 405 was an all-new S-Class wearing not much more than some wrapping paper. I say that because I consider it a gift. I may reconsider that again once I get the chance to actually use that horrifying looking dual-screen set up.

As we've seen before it looks as though this will largely be an evolution with some inspiration from the F800 concept. The interior, from the shots we saw, appears to have gotten a bit of an upgrade; however, there is a catch.

It does look quite old-man-ish. I mean, you can't install a two-spoke steering wheel and think that's modern. That's so...1970s.

And the diamond-pattern stitching on the dashboard is a bit overkill.

That said, we believe it's possible that Mercedes may have enough panache to reclaim the large luxury sedan crown once again. Let's see if the AMG variants give the Audi S8 hell.

Hence, the 2014 S-Class, which we spotted going up the 405 Freeway in surprisingly light traffic. (He hasn't hit the La Cienega exit yet.) The new S-class will be even more opulent and important than before, having 1.) to take over where dearly departed, ultra-sybaritic Maybach left off, perhaps even with a Großer variant; and 2.) a perfume sprayer in the glovebox.
