As I've been chronicling, I've been keeping an eye on Mazda.

That's because since the company started going through serious financial trouble it came out of no where by introducing really intriguing products. The current-gen Mazda3 is a great vehicle if you're not a Honda or Toyota loyalist.

And, I think it's pretty safe to say that Mazda attracted a TON of attention when it unveiled the Takeri Concept. Eventually it turned into the newly released Mazda6 with a pretty good amount of fanfare.

Or how about the new CX-5 sport-utility vehicle? Another product that deserves a round of applause. This is why the brand is quickly finding itself on its feet again.

The thing is the brand's bread-and-butter, at least in the U.S. is the entry-level Mazda3 and it's due for an upgrade. The 6 and CX-5 can be consider the 2-3 punch but the reality is the most important and "on fire" priority is getting the Mazda3 right.

From what we've seen so far it appears to be heading in the RIGHT direction. Now we're seeing the interior for the FIRST time and I wanted to get it in front of your face so you can tell us your thoughts.

It appears to me that Mazda has stepped up its game significantly. Note the little improved details. Overall, it appears the plastics are of a higher grade and the dash takes some creative license from the new Mazda6. In addition, how can you miss that Mercedes-Benz-inspired screen on top of the center stack? Note it HAS to be controlled via that little iDrive-like control behind the shifter.

The steering wheel is a nice and thick three-spoke AND the seats appear to have more bolstering than the average entry-level auto.

I am liking what I am seeing.

How about you?
