Would be nice if they mentioned what tires were used on both rides. With that said I would take the BMW as being the more fun to drive auto, but by a narrow margin since the TT looks better. It appears that Audi tuned their Diesel for more refinement than sport.

The TT got minced by the Bimmer simply because this Audi does not have quattro. Yes, it's badged like it has one but in fact it has some crappy front wheel drive with a clutch that sends power to the rear wheels in straight line but not much in corners, especially when exiting those. Only A4 or bigger Audis have true quattro.

BMW's diesel makes as much power as Audi's 2.0t gas engine. This just reaffirms that BMW makes the best engines.

1/2 a second and watching both runs it looks like the Audi is having a leasurely Sunday drive while he is fighting to keep the BMW on the track. The BMW had the M sport package which means it had high performace tires vs. the Audi probably had all seasons, that alone would account for 1/2 a second.

excuses? The BMW was faster regardless, and has 2 more seats. If it was dry the gap would have been even larger.

carE10 is right, it was very wet and yet Audi got its balls kicked - a genuine proof of how turdy this fake "quattro" is. BTW Bmw twin turbo diesel is cheaper than this tarted up golf with audi badge and a single turbo diesel? Ridiculous. Let's leave it to homosexual hairdressers and take the proper car in this comparo.

Exactly downtoearth and carE10 You get what you pay for and the BMW with the 'M' package comes with sports tyres and is still cheaper than the TT. So if you want to put sports tyres on the TT you'll have to fork out even more cash. The beemer is more practical, has better mileage and kicks the Audi's (quattro I might add) ass 'round a track!

How long has VW been making the Golf with an aluminum space frame? I know that is what the TT is made from. And everybody on here keeps saying the TT is a rebadged Golf?

Summer performance are no extra charge on the TT. You have your choice of all season or performance on all available wheels on the TT.

steve, I agree with you, this is not a fair comparison test to begin with. The BMW has definitively sports tires, a stiffer suspension, 34hp more and 42lbs/ft of torque more. There is absolutely no doubt that the bimmer is going to be faster. A 12 years old child could see that coming. However despite its handicaps the TT finishes very close to the Bimmer, thanks to it's even "fake" quattro. And everybody with an objective eye can see that the TT is actually quite neutral and easy to drive when the Bimmer is a hand full and he almost lost it at the very beginning. Because of the same advantages, there is no doubt neither that the Bimmer would faster on the dry. This is just pure logic. If the fanbois here where to have an open mind, oh, wait, no, that would not work as they would not be fanbois anymore. LOL

Mandrianpace, for your information, quattro spells without a capital Q. So before you start bashing Audi, how about you learn about it before, just a bit even. Would that hurt your brain too much to learn something?
