According to Automotive News Ford is going to install two turbochargers on its 4-cylinder, V6 and V8 engines to increase fuel economy.

Derrick Kuzak, group vice president for global product development said that the new technology will deliver diesel like fuel economy.

The first vehicle that will have the new technology will be the Lincoln MKS flagship sedan that is due in 2008.

Ford is also working on variable displacement V8 engines and a new six-speed automatic transmission that combines the features of a manual with an automatic.
