Edmunds.com analysts reported that the average incentive amount given by OEMs increased slightly in May, pointing toward a seasonal trend as the reason.

Site analysts said the average amount nameplates distributed in incentives for May was $2,497. That figure was a 1.8-percent, or $44 increase, from what the company noted for April and a 5.18-percent, or $123 jump, from what Edmunds.com reported for May of last year.

Executives said they gathered information from several incentive programs to compile the total, including subvented interest rates and lease programs, in addition to cash rebates for customers and dealers. The site noted the calculations were based on sales volume and the proportion of vehicles that received each type of incentive.
