The White House and Congress are working on an emergency bill to add $2 billion to the "Cash for Clunkers" program to keep it alive, two congressional aides said today.
At a House Democratic Caucus meeting this morning, Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, D-Md., said the House is working to get unanimous consent to bring up an emergency funding bill for the program.
The funds would be transferred from the $787 billion stimulus bill approved in February and would come from a Title 17 energy loan guarantee program, which has been slow to be awarded, an aide said.
