When Jaguar dropped the curtains on the all-new and long awaited F-Type, I was a bit confused. It wasn't the vehicle's design or price point that had me scratching my head though. It was the peculiar packaging.

It wasn't just "Oh, you get a V6 or a V8." It was more like going to Baskin Robins for the first time and trying to decipher which flavor of the 31 you'll get. Of course I am over exaggerating.

But with three different variants, it is crucial to drive all three and get a sense of what's the most to one's liking. With so many different components you know the ride, steering and motor combinations will create a sizable difference when it comes to ordering one. And the only "proper" way to determine the best of the lot is to drive each and every one with the same pilot, back-to-back.

That's exactly what Motor Trend did.

On this episode of Ignition, Kim Reynolds heads to Pamplona, Spain to have a look at some of Jaguar's classic entries in the sports car realm, and also to get his hands on their latest convertible sports car, the F-Type. The F-type has an all-aluminum body and a new all-aluminum, 3.0-liter supercharged direct-injection V-6 based on the 5.0-liter V-8, with balance shafts, a dual independent variable cam timing system, and a Roots-type twin vortex supercharger mounted in the engine's vee. Jaguar has given us three different versions, the V6, V6S, and V8s, to play with, so we're taking them out to the mountains of Spain to see which one best represents Jaguar's new spiritual E-type successor.
