1 week with the Lexus LS600h
NihonCar has a quite long article with a 4 minute HD video on the New Lexus LS600h... to make short here you are their conclusion

Conclusion:
What to think about this LS600h at the end of the day, or at the end of the week as far as I'm concerned, is it really a revolution that Toyota came up with through its Luxury vehicles brand? The answer is clearly Yes and the huge step forward made by Lexus in terms of safety, technology and motor will be hard for other car manufacturers to challenge. Unfortunately this may not be enough for some people who do not show a great interest in technology and go for impeccable interiors...Another possible problem for the big Lexus in Japan? Its price, costing 11 million Yens makes it a direct challenger to the Jaguar XJ 4.2 Sovereign, and even though the british queen doesn't feature advanced engine technology or incredible safety features, its interior and style can look more attractive to a lot of potential customers...Lexus's problem might be the image but no matter what, this LS600h is easily sitting among the bests of its category.

what is your problem anyways. When there are articles about bmw and mercs and audis, we dont comment on the materials used but the layout because we know that at this price point, all the materials in all these cars are great.

Have you ever even been in a lexus?

formula1, sadly your name doesn't reflect your knowledge. Cheap Lexus interior? Lexus and Porsche are on top on quality. All other manufacurer trail them and look up to them. Not even the Bently Flying Spur matched the OLDER LS model's quality yet. I would sugest you change your name to say, Ford1.

If you don't know anything about Lexus, why do you continue to talk out of your ass!!!

The new LS uses one of the finest leather in the world, and the wood trim is the same kind they use on the fine Yamaha wooden pianos...

The LS has great quality plastic/wood/leather. I can back up the LS on that front. However like I said Lexus LS offers a Japanese flavor that the European luxury cars don't. It's different luxury.

At least I know the interior in the Toyota Camry XLE and Avalon look way better than any BMW. Lexus interior is one of the one in the luxury segment, so stop your stupid comments.

Lexus LS600hl interior and technology has been compare to a $1+ million dollar or private jet. I don't see any Audi, BMW or MB being compare to a million dollar jet.

It has been compared to a private jet but it's not a jet. It was compared to a Bentley but it's definitely no Bentley. Just because a car is compared to something does not mean it's in the same league. You have to get that through your head.

If a Camry was compared to a Bentley would you think it's just as good? Heck no!. Same idea different car.

You have too many false claims.

The LS600H front headlights is a winner in my opinion. It's beautiful and very Japanese. It differs from those from Europe. Not a bad thing at all. Just different flavoring for the luxury buyers to choose from.

You put down other brands because you like Lexus. At least show some respect. Have you even sat in most of the luxury cars you talk about? how can you base your information?

Others have talked down on the European luxury cars and that's fine because they have test driven them so on and so forth.

horrible music and filmatography (sp?). they need better audio and how about some human commentary about the car.

he comments on the cold colors of the interior but interior color is a choice. that grey birds eye maple wood is like by some but not by this guy apparently.

and yes the wood is damn right real from yamaha.

Since my boys don't have a big boy in their lineup I have to side with the Lexus fans. The LS is the shit always was the shit, I think the Germans are scared. This car is a beast and like Infiniti failed challenging it I know Acura wouldn't try. The looks are one to grow on as I kind of liked the old body style, but the buttons you will never find that many in a German car. The car for all it's worth does look like a big Camry though.

Whoever wrote this obviously has not heard about the Mercedes S class, Audi A8, BMW 7, Jaguar XJ, Bentley Continental / Arnage, Rolls Royce etc. Safety wise, these cars are all on the same playing field, with the S class and LS probably taking the lead.

In terms of safety, the Mercedes S-Class is right up there with the Lexus LS. Aside from that, most safety features in this class were developed by Mercedes-Benz.

Agree with Bill. Mercedes is a leader in safety, always has. Lexus has not done squat except copy and improve existing systems.

I'll have to say that this car is state of the art in terms of technology and comfort. However, It just doesn't strike me as anything but bland, really. It's a great car with great features but in terms of artistic creativity it absolutely does not stand out. Everyone can make fun of Chris Bangle (not a fan of all his designs) but at least he's a progressive designer. I really wish that I liked this car more.

I own a 3 series. Lexus IS was my 2nd choice but to me, there is something uber-teutonic and passionless about Lexus. Great cars-Little personality.

BTW, I also don't like how Lexus uses crude-looking Toyota switches and buttons. At least try to make it look different inside.

Both my parents' BMWs are more than 8 years old, and they aren't falling apart at all. My mother's 3 series convertible needed a new rear screen (plastic, it fogs and scratches) and a couple of brake pads but that's kind of expected when it's 10 years old. Mechanically it's a gem, and electrically it's nigh on perfect. Same for my Dad's 7 series, 8 years old and brilliant. My VW is 6 years old and that's doing fine too, the most maintenance I have to do is clean it.
You really don't seem to know what you're on about - have you ever owned a German car? How often do you see these BMWs and Audis stuck at the side of roads, falling apart? You talk such complete crap.

"TECHNOLOGY is the key word, it almost seems that the car was built upside down, it's not a car full of technology, it's a technology with 4 wheels and a steering! "

This is exactly the problem with Lexus, they develop bits and pieces of 'technology' and add '4 wheels and steering" with no regard for driving dynamics and design; a very bland design by committe result...upside down is about right...it seems the Lexus marketing team is running the show, giving the design team requirments for technology (self parking anyone?).. instead of letting style and dynamics lead design...and for fingerprint or laser eye ID, that is exaclty a Lexus type 'technology' utterly useless but will make for 'cool' commercials along with self parking...how uselessly pretentious..

I won't hold my breath...Actually, Lexus does it right, let someone else spend R&D on a technology, perfect it, then Lexus comes in, finds a way to do it cheaper and more reliably...nothing wrong with that..the non enthusiast crowd couldnt give a rats arse who invented it...and all Lexus needs to do is show it on a commercial and presto..its their innovation in the persuit of pefection..very L-Finesse

When you buy a luxury car you want just that. As a sports or handling machine people who buy a LS or anything else that expensive want just one thing,
LOOK AT ME I HAVE MONEY? If they can't get that satisfaction that nobody thinks what they bought is or looks expensive then they are disappointed that is what a 75k or more buyer is after. The LS, Benz,Bimmer,Audi,Jag and the super expenisive machines all have a cache about them, it is what emblem the buyer prefers, to say a LS is junk is like saying a breakfast steak is as good as a quailty piece of meat.
I'm not a Lexus guy, but when i drive in a LS i respect the car and the luxury it has, i don't expect to be a two ton Porsche, it is absurd that car is vry nice for sure.

I think you miss an important point..people who buy nice cars don't just want the "look at me" factor, they want something that means something to them (safety, performance, design, style, and yes badge too)..when you buy a Benz, Audi, BMW, you know there is a history of value and prestige and a known brand image, with Lexus the difficulty they have is that they have had to invent an image quickly and prop it up with glitz and glam which is just to phony for me..very Paris Hilton in my mind..the only problem I have with Lexus is NOT the cars themselves, they are generally all very nice, safe, reliable, but a bit uninspiring, bland..add that to the made up imaging that Lexus marketing has created and it just turns me off...that is what most of the Lexus fans here are trying to combat, an image problem, not a product problem..

chuck717chuck717 - 7/9/2007 1:57:15 PM

Good take Mark, true the cars are not a leader in style but many i know who own them bought the car for its reputation as a very realiable luxury car that they are very happy with the understated quiet money look. But your point is noted and it is a valid one.

Hey Chuck, thanks for the reasoned response, I think a first on Autospies..I know what you mean, I have had many a conversation with folks who own them, and do love them. But by in large the majority of them just like the reliability and the point A to B ride in luxury and want the understated image..certainly not auto enthusiasts..again nothing wrong with that but not for me. Give them another 10 years...maybe

Lexus ALWAYS understates their 0 - 60 times by at least .5 seconds. Here are the results of the 5 Top Luxury Cars in this test which was reported in the January Issue of Car and Driver. Please note these tests were all done on the same day at about the same time and at the same altitude. The results reflect the average of 3 runs and all cars are the 2007 vintage.

Mercedes S550 5.6, 0 - 60 quarter mile in 14.1 (Benz show 5.4 in their specs)
BMW 750iL 5.7, 0 - 60 quarter mile in 14.2
Jag XJ Super 6.0 0 - 60 quarter mile 14.5
Lexus LS460L 6.2 0 - 60 quarter mile 14.6
Audi A8 6.8 0 - 60 quarter mile 15.2

Note that Lexus, as usual, is more than the 5.4 the manufacturer CLAIMS to get by .8 seconds.

Also note the LS430 (prior model the LS460 replaced) was rated at 295 HP and was actually 278 when Lexus corrected their rating. And there were no refunds or apologies from the so-called "quality" car company. ABC - Always Be Careful what you buy from the (REPREHENSIBLE) Toyota/Lexus people.....
