2008 Audi TT Coupe and Roadster: Is it a Sports Car
There's been a bit of buzz among journalists lately that the second-generation Audi TT might finally be a true sports car.

So when Audi offered to let us drive the TT on some of Northern California's mind-blowing twisty roads, we went along to see if the rumors were true.
They're not. There, I said it. The second-generation TT is not a sports car.

But that's not a bad thing. The TT is a fantastic car. It's just not a sports car. Let me explain by defining the term:

He didn't say it wasn't great, just that it wasn't a sports car. Seems like every year less and less people understand the difference. Hint: it has nothing to do with engine power or 0-60.

i dont understand why it costs so much more than a vw gti and audi a3, can styling really cost that much because they are on the same platform the material quality looks the same, and they use the same engine and transmission less space and swoopy styling can cost thousands more

bmwdrvr: why does an M6 cost more than a 525i ???
"can styling really cost that much because they are on the same platform the material quality looks the same, and they use the same engine and transmission less space and swoopy styling can cost thousands more"

okay, so its not the same engine, but otherwise its the same argument.......

the 6 series shares both 5 and 7 components its not simply a 5 series coupe....and the tt, a3, and gti do all have the same engine, the tt is no more than a restlyed overpriced vw rabbit, it is the equivalent of toyota giving the yaris or corolla a new body pricing it thousands more and giving it a lexus badge. or the versa or nissan being given slick styling, and than calling it an infiniti. the gti is almost half as much as a tt, the a3 is at least 10k or more cheaper for more space.....point not made

Actually your ignorance is funny and you are wrong. Check up on the second generatio Audi TT. Did you know that the body is made of 69% aluminum and 31% steel blend. Something that no other car has. The wheelbase is different from the A3. The interior is completely different. It has the magnetic ride suspension available. So yes, exactly like the 6 series shares engine and transmission with the 5 series, the A3 shares its engine and transmission with the Audi A3.

sound dumb...wow personal attacks about my opinion very dignified must be an audi driver. this is what car and driver had to say so whos ignorrant

"It shares its architecture with the Volkswagen Rabbit, including the engine and the dual-clutch transmission" rabbit starts at $15,000

"That’s a lot of money when an A3 or GTI will perform at almost the same level for less money and with more interior space. But the A3 and the GTI don’t have the eye-catching exterior of the TT. The TT’s premium is its style. Fortunately, it moves as well as it looks."

so again the premium is its style and the rabbit starts at 15,000 so again where did the money go, the article also saids its only 195 pounds lighter than a gti and judging by the cars it was compared to the tt is no luxury car not even remotely...some people will fall for anything with a quasi-luxury badge
