2008 Subaru Legacy Boxer Diesel: Driving the World's 1st Boxer Diesel
We're driving the 2008 Subaru Legacy Boxer Diesel in Malaga, Spain, but we might as well be in Southern California.
Everything looks like Southern California already, right down to the Spanish on the street signs. And while you might think of the distinctive clatter of diesel from beneath the Legacy's hood as the signature sound of European traffic these days, we promise you that it will be heard on the streets of Orange County soon enough.
This 2008 Subaru Legacy Boxer Diesel is a European model meant to go on sale this spring, but we think it's surely coming to America. A wave of diesel technology is headed toward the United States, and Subaru clearly wants to be riding the crest.

I remember reading that Porsche did work on the design of this engine, but is not mentioned in the article...
I guess that they did not want to be associated with "DIESEL"....

It's a good diesel, low emissions, high mpg, refined and powerful.
Well done Subaru.

Can't wait for this thing to arrive. I love how Subaru always tries to be slight unique, although not always w/ the best of results (i.e. exterior styling), but respectable in the sea of uniformity which is the norm today.
I had a 05 GT STG. 2, it always fun seeing the grins on passengers faces who didn't expect it to have as much balls as it did. Unfortunately, a bastard deer decided to take it away from me. Also, the styling of this car, especially in JDM Spec B trim w/ very pleasing.

This just goes to show how advanced the Japanese are in fuel efficient technology. Hybrids, gasoline and diesel engines. If the Europeans were really leaders in diesel technology they would have worked on a boxer diesel a long time ago. Low weight, less friction and less energy loss and therefore more efficiency.

Just ignore him.
He's just a 13 year old that thinks Lexus is the best because his daddy has one. We can obviously tell from his ignorant, senseless, illogical posts.

The present is more important than the past. Despite their brilliant past, where are Greece and Italy in these rankings?
Bottomline, broadly measured, Japan is currently more technologically advanced than Germany.

You misunderstood. My question is: as a nation, how does Italy or Greece fare in today's technology rankings?
