BMW X6 xDrive 50i Road Test
Nothing unexpected really, the article basically praises the cars ability to defy physics while questioning the necessity of it. I'm only posting it because the performance is better than anyone thought.

0-60 4.8 seconds
1/4 mile 13.4 seconds @ 102.8mph
skidpad 0.90g
slalom 64.9mph
60-0 116ft

Love it or hate it I'll let everyone draw their own conclusions. Performance-wise though, it compares favorably with all the vehicles BMW intended the car to compete with in the same pricerange (ML63 AMG, Cayenne GTS/Turbo, Range Rover Sport Supercharged) as well as matching or besting the new Infinti FX50 (5.0s 0-60, 13.7s 1/4 mile, 0.85g, 63.3mph slalom, 124ft 60-0). At a higher price, though, of course.

Happy reading...

I'm not a big fan of any kind of hatchbacks, but the numbers are pretty impressive for a car that weighs in at 2 1/2 tons. Aside from its impracticality, unless you really like the look of the X6, there's nothing the 335xi can't do for you and it still seats 4 also and a lot more fun to drive. Looks like this car was built for "America".

"Impracticality"???? It has more space under the cargo cover than an X5, which is saying a lot. It will take four golf bags and they are easy to load. The cargo area is at a great height and you can just slide them in and slide them out again when unloading, because there is no lift-over. Some people enjoy a more commanding seating position than a sedan and they haven't been cross-shopping it against the 335xi in my experience. People coming out of high performance SUVs and sedans like the X5 4.8is, Cayenne Turbo, 7 Series, S Class, etc. have been very positive towards the X6. They have been selling as they arrive. Every comment about the styling and performance has been extremely positive.

this vehicle was designed to compete with the ML63, Cayenne Turbo & Range Rover Sport Supercharged. It does so very well. It is larger than the ML63 and about $15k less. It is about $20k less than the Porsche Cayenne Turbo and is as large with more cargo capacity. It is perfect. I am 6'2 and have no problem sitting in the back seat with headroom. everyone knew the performance was going to be better than what BMW estimated. BMW is always conservative in the estimates. Very impressive none the less

Throw some snow at it and I'll bet it'll flop just like a sedan. If you want handling, get the 335i, it probably has more cargo room.

Now that Ford is cutting back on trucks, BMW releases an impractical car that gets incredibly horrendous mileage. Just what yuppies asked for.

So, let me get this straight... you're getting all the drawbacks of an SUV (hight center of gravity, heavy, poor mpg, poor maneuverability, poor visibility) in a package that has NONE of the benefits of an SUV? (good ground clearance, large interior space, generous and high cargo capacity etc.) and sold every one of these?

Well done BMW, well done :) this just reaffirms the belief - BMW never went hungry "underestimating" the taste of its customers...

huh? it is clearly not poor in manueverability. Not poor in performance. So it is better than the " normal suv " that you are refering to. How does it not have good ground clearance? How is the interior space lacking? cargo? oh wait you are assuming that everyone that has a SUV puts tall square objects in their car. It is intended for the sport minded people that want a SUV but dont want a SUV. People that may have a SUV, but want something more fun and sporty. These are the same people that drive the Cayenne Turbo, very practical SUV in your estimation, or the ML63 or the Range Rover Sport Supercharged ... Those are very practical.

So, the reincarnated AMC Eagle gets 13 MPG city.

Pathetic...

If it actually looked good, one might overlook this, but it's hideous.

"Did anyone figure out the market for this one yet?"

Yeah, BMW did, since it is sold out for the entire year. Even here in Cincinnati, which is not exactly South Beach or LA, they're taking orders for NEXT year already, all of this year is sold out.

To clarify, they are sold out to dealers, not to customers.

There are 5 X6's sitting on Ebay right now, and many more on Autotrader.

They are selling like hot cakes. Ive seen them on the streets even before the dealers starting selling them, and at a double price tag. (UAE)

Do me a favor and don't "clarify" my posts, because to clarify what you just said, no, you're wrong they're sold out to customers. That's why the dealers are taking orders for NEXT year, because they've already presold every unit they're getting this year. Every allocation the dealers are going to get from BMW for the year has a deposit and a client.

Till now i have seen quite a few on roads and it looks horrible. low and a bit long. If it were a bit short(as it looked in pictures) then it would have been little better. And it's priced here in UAE at 400,000 Dirhams($110K) Starting price. More than an X5 M, Cayenne GTS and as much as Cayenne Turbo.

After a year, who will buy such an unpracticle, not SUV nor coupe, zero at offroading and expensive car? Very few.

Yes that's the official price. X6 xdrive50i starts at 400,000 Dirhams. From Abu Dhabi Motors.

and yes in Dubai now there are lot on the roads, but go to other cities like Abu Dhabi, Alain...etc and u'll hardly find any. That was not the case with X5, Cayenne...etc. Those cars as soons as came to dealers sold like anything.

Do you know about the waiting list the car has? Btw, It wont be selling as well as the X5, Cayenne etc because the dealers have a very low inventory. That's why. If you want to get one you'll need to wait for so long!

The starting price is very high... But I still love how it looks, it has plenty of road presence. More than any other SUV.

Thats what BMW wanted to do....low inventory...they increase the price and sell less X6's...So people who buy the X6 feel there special unlike the X5,Cayyene and the Range Rover....there like Toyota's now...soo if u got ur X6 There u go..
