When it comes to today's supercars, the craziest and fastest models are no longer normal vehicles. There's a certain mixture of extreme engineering that makes them simply the most insane products on the road today.

These autos are no longer naturally aspirated and simple. Now you have electric drive units as well as forced induction powerplants and whatever the engineering teams can come up with. We're living in a truly exciting time for automotive ingenuity.

But if you don't have a million plus bucks to spend on a supercar, well, then you're relegated to a couple other vehicles using similar technology. That would be the Acura NSX and BMW i8.

From my seat it seems that both are actually made for two different purposes. The NSX is an all-out performance vehicle. The BMW, on the other hand, is produced moreso for grand touring with an emphasis on getting an acceptable mpg.

There is a new crop of supercars that take the same technology we see in hybrid hypercars and delivers it it in a slightly more affordable package. The future of the combustion engine may be bleak, but for now it can still use new tech to shine.
