This has been an extraordinary year for cars. Let's face it, with vehicles like the Tesla Model S that disrupted the market, to some extent, and the all-new power freaks via Ferrari (LaFerrari), Porsche (918) and McLaren (P1), we've seen some real innovation.

While we've covered the Porsche 918 Spyder quite a bit and showed you Autocar's Steve Sutcliffe behind the wheel, now he's had the chance to pilot the all-new McLaren P1.

This IS a big deal because of three reasons:

1) In the million dollar car battle, we have yet to see a "winner;"

2) Not many people — I can't think of anyone — have driven both the Porsche and the top-dog McLaren; and

3) McLaren hasn't announced the official time the P1 lapped the benchmark Nürburgring.

There's very few data points to collect here so we have to treasure what we've got. That said, I'd wager you can probably dial back what Sutcliffe says as he is British and there's just about a dose of the ol' country pride in any review by a Brit.

You judge for yourself.
