First Drive: 2008 Mercedes-Benz C300
If you ask me - and if you are still reading this I guess you are - this new C300 from Mercedes offers tremendous value for the dollar in the segment. A free sport package is a no-brainer unless you are really set on the traditional styling. On the road, the C300 is as quiet and smooth as you would expect a Mercedes-Benz to be, and when the road gets a little twisty it can hold its own and then some and keep you smiling the entire time - I'll take a manual with Sport package in white please. Well Mercedes would also win the worst value in its class if there was such an award. Look at the CL class, S class, CLS class (all of those with the big engines). Im not bashing mercedes at all, but their prices are always higher than the competition.

Yes I know, the S class is a fantastic car. Again my comment above was NOT meant to bash Mercedes benz.

It's on my shopping list but I also want to see the GLK and Cadillac's new CTS.

Mercedes Benz's are more expensive than the competition b/c they can be. People are willing to pay a premium for the name "Mercedes". In my opinion they get what they pay for. Looks and bragging rights. Just take the S550 is starts at $88,775 (including gas-guzzler tax) almost 10 grand more than the 2nd most expensive in its class, the BMW 750Li at $79,575 and the Benz hands down comes out on top. Its a grat car. That's why Mercedes can price their vehicles some 5 grand above the competition.

You don't always get what you pay for. For example the rust-free aluminum-bodied Audi A8 with its superior AWD system is considerably lower priced than the Mercedes S-Class. I admit, however that the S has the world's best front seats.
