Jeremy Clarkson says a Suzuki is BETTER than the MINI?
It looks like the Mini, which means it looks fantastic, and it’s practical too. Even though it has deep bucket seats in the front — possibly the best seats fitted to a car since the Renault Fuego turbo went west — there’s still enough space in the back for three children. And the boot’s quite spacious as well. Read Article

Me thinks Jeremy is off his meds again and I suggest he heads for his neighborhood pub and issues an apology.

You can't be on top forever and if you get unseated then just take it like a man... He called it like he saw it. Is he supposed to be biased because of the nameplate. When you see greatness, then you have to accept it. Just like people say BMWs are the best driver's car, someone is going to come along when you least expect it then all of a sudden they've taken the position of 2nd... After all, a mini had a BMW heart thumping in it doesn't it?

What's the big deal? I have not driven it, but maybe it is a better car. I don't understand why people think the Mini is the best car ever made.

I know if it were a company other than BMW all you guyz would have been overjoyed.
So stop the ignorance and acknowledge others' comments.

I don't like the styling of the Suzuki Swift Sport inside or out and if I had to choose I would take the cooler Mini.

Clarkson has never been a balanced evaluator...

I would definitely purchase the suzuki over the mini. I'm perfectly sane as well. Mobius, exactly how has he not been a balanced evaluator except for the fact that he will choose English and Italian automobiles over German automobiles and Japanese automobiles dead last?

i wonder if it would be possible to pull the motor out of the suzuki, and stuff in a Hayabusa motor in its place?

that would make a REAL screamer of a subcompact!

The Mini name is pure English but currently under BMW...Mini's might aswell be German (which is a good thing). Everyone knows this, Clarkson included, which means his opinion's diluted...I should be rapper ;)

This is exactly why the Swift is better, (because the mini's a bmw). The only better thing in the mini is the colour trims it comes in, this makes it very nice i have to say. The other thing i like is the S version of it. However, it can't compete with a Japanese car just like BMW and merc can't compete with Lexus. Quality is so much more superior in the Japanese cars, they don't become squeaky and fall apart, AND they live longer than you will.

I may agree with you with some of your comments, but I have to admit the German cars are held strongger.

While I agree they may have electrical and mecanical problems, but I have not met a Japanese car that is strongger than a BMW or Mercedes. May be VW/Audi.

I know, I owned a '89 BMW535i/manual; Stronggest car I have ever driven and now I have 2003 M5.
I love Hondas and acknowlege Toyota, but to me toughest Japanese cars I've ever known is the Acura Integra/Honda Civic.
I tell you, these cars can take what ever punishment you can lay on them.
P.S. also the old 280z.

Clarkson never liked BMW so everything that comes from them will never be good enough for him. All he is doing in top gear is entertaining. He loves to hear him self talk, when there are guests in the studio or even his colleagues he always interrupt. He is a joke.

He doesn't like the BMW brand to say the least. He's been known to make remarks about BMW being connected to the nazi's and stuff over the past few years.

What is the problem?

Every one knows all German cars were associated with the Nazi's. From Audi (Auto Union)to Mercedes Benz.
Remember what the Bmw sign stands for? They were just a little too late, that's all.

oh yes the Danish mohammed cartoons...you did cause a stir. death to all those who oppose islam seemed to be the message that was sent back....like when the Pope quoted that thing saying Islam was a violent nation, and then some islamic people said "no we're not" and murdered a nun in somalia. but this is too political for a car news board...
how to get back on track.....ummm......I like audis? (don't I?)
chinese people are short! mainly, obviously.

001, WHY DO YOU KEEP DOING THIS?!?

You keep stirring us up by saying some reviewer was "out of his mind" for picking one over the other, and you usually prefer the other- but does that mean WE all do?

Granted, I'd pick a Mini over this Suzuki (but it does look nice), but this is just one example.

I would easily take an S8 over an S550. If it were A8L vs. S550, it would be close, but I might even still end up with an A8L because of its sportier feel and timeless styling.

The 3 Series coupe and TT are in different classes. I'd still take a 3er over it, however.

I think both cars have positives. And you can't take away the brand cachet of the Mini...

Was JC biased in this article... you know he prefers British to Italian to American to German to Japanese, in that order... in The Times article, he was ranting about the general feeling of negativity of being British in this world... so its the turn of the Brits then to be at the end of his caustic tongue.

But what about the Swift? I've driven it and its fun to drive, cheap to buy, with a cool exterior and a nice interior... sure the build may not be as strong, the engine is underpowered and the car is noisy. Still doesn't take away any of the positives. I like the car with a lighter colour and the blacked-out A-pillar... gives the car a nice - can I say it - aggressive stance.

The mere fact that JC says this car is nice means this car is really nice. JC has been known to routinely thrash cars which are overall nice to most people.
