Mercedes C350 Review from Edmunds
This week, we managed to pry a 2008 Mercedes-Benz C350 away from its press introduction in Portland, Oregon, and drove it all the way back to our offices in Santa Monica, California. What we learned on this 1,000-mile drive and after instrumented track testing shows us that Mercedes-Benz is serious about the C-Class' competition.

...Hope this hasn't been posted yet, forgive me if it has already been.

Like I've said a couple of hundred times, what a gorgeous interior.

I don't like the interior nor the exterior, the dash is basic, and the steering wheel looks cheezy.

I have a question though, I thought when the MB came up with the 3.5 V6 engines, found in E350 and now C350, the engine would produce what the Japanese 3.5 V6 produces, why is it so much less, 268 vs. 306 hps?

That's why I always say, Japanese engines ARE the best and always will be.

Designer1, you may not recall that many years ago an American consultant to the auto industry suggested that Detroit adopt the then Japanese car industry trick of deliberately installing relatively weak valve springs that would reduce performance after about 50,000 miles and motivate customers to trade in their vehicles. This left me with a lack of trust regarding Japanese engines. The only Japanese engines I trust completeley are those made by Nissan.

"Too many disparate M-B design cues"

I totally disagree. I've read the article and I'm not really seeing his point frankly.

"sterile interior"

I agree, sort of. It's not the most exciting interior but it is extremely well built and is perfect for the job. (leasing) Like I said in the CL500 the COMAND interface is brilliant and very easy to use (by far the best I have ever seen)

"drivetrain sets no new output standards"

That is a bit of a pity, yet the engines are still very good and why complain about 270 hp in a small sedan? But don't worry Mercedes-Benz is coming with a more powerful C400 Bi-Turbo.

I don't know what people expect from Mercedes. The 2008 C has significant improvements over the previous model -- it's better late than never. I'm still holding out for the Vision C220 bluetec in RWD form with LSD. When will you make my day Mercedes? And, please Mercedes, stop the blackmail marketing practice of charging extra for most paint colors on the C-Class!

It's probably a terrific car to drive, but as I've written before, and Edmund's bears me out, it looks clunky. The interior is better than the exterior--but just.
According to a good friend who still sells M-B's, their cars are getting more reliable. Of course, that's purely anecdotal, we'll see how the new ones hold up in a few years according to real world surveys.

I wanted to like this car a lot. I used to be such a Mercedes guy. I'm glad they're becoming reliable again but I just don't think the new C is that great. The pop-up screen looks so cheap and nissan-ish. The console You know that with options the C350 will be around $50k. I surely wouldn't pay $50k for that.

Couple that with high running costs and no included maintenance plan, and yougot yourself a NO BUY.

Why buy this car when you can have a Lexus IS350 or BMW 335i sedan at almost the same starting price.
