REVIEW: Alfa Romeo Brera-Does It Live Up To The Image?

This is the problem I see with Alfa coming back to the US. They are gorgeous cars, but that seems to be about where it ends. Value, performance, reliability are all less than what we in the US are accustomed to. For that car, we would need/want a 3.5 liter engine to get it to scoot, and they are testing with a 2.2.

they better not bring a single alfa to the states unless its rwd. otherwise, they are just an acura competitor.

First of all let me point out that this is the 4 cylinder version of the Brera.My understanding is that the new DI 1.75 ltr turbo 4 that is going into the Mito GTA will be offered in the Brera. This current 2.2 4 has 185 HP in a car that weighs in at about 3400 LBS. There is definately a power to weight ratio problem.Second it is doubtful that Alfa will bring this car into the US. The new 149 platform has been developed for the successor to the 159/Brera premium platform. It is significantly lighter then this current platform. My understanding is a coupe variant will be built off this new platform. Most likely that car will be either brought in or made here. As for Alfa reliability let me point out that while not up to "Toyota" standards it has dramatically improved over the past few yrs. The reason is simply that the market demanded it. In fact Fiat/Alfa now have better reliability ratings then Mercedes and VW to name a few. However if the odd chance that Alfa actually decided to market the Brera here they could easily lighten the car (as in aluminum hood and front fenders).With a weight of around 3200 LBS and a 240 HP engine the performance would be class competative in a body to die for.Other then Aston Martin most Italian cars are on a different plain in terms of beauty compared to the rest of the auto world. If you appreciate art and sculpture you can forgive Alfa for it's imperfections and simply enjoy being in it while in motion.

Brera is really one of the biggest alfa disappointments in the last years. Reliability has come way up, so you yanks have nothing to complain about that anymore, but in this case, car is just bad. Regardless of who the maker is. It sux.

This is a nice vehicle, not to everyones tastes, but it would be a headturner if it ever made it to North America.
