Review: 2008 Audi S6 Test Drive
The Audi S6’s huge engine, well-appointed interior and understated appearance make for an ideal high-speed cruiser.

While test driving the Audi S6, I stopped at my parents’ house for a short visit. This was not a good idea.

First of all, they thought I had gotten a job at a hedge fund and not told them. Then, after dinner, I took my dad for a ride and now he wants one, which is more of a problem for my mom than it is for me. We merely meandered through the neighborhood, but two minutes into the drive, he said, “This car is serious. This is a car for a guy like me...

Excellent review of the Audi S6.

The Audi S6 was the only car out of the BMW M5 and Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG to never finish in last place in the trio of comparison tests done by magazines.

The Audi S6 was also declared the winner in at least one of the tests and perhaps even two of the respective tests.

I love the S6--one of my favorite Audis. That's strange considering how the A6 is my least-favorite, but have made the S6 simply excellent.

And Sprint Blue! Why didn't they take any pictures of it?

yeah MunichRob, especially when you have those blinding rows of LEDs under the headlights. You really can't those things coming..they look rather dull.

More importantly the RS6! the avant never makes it US bound, but when is the sedan hitting shores?, I've heard all this news about tts, new a4, it seems like everyone forgot about the rs6! which was soo hyped when it was spied on this site a couple of months ago.

$85,000 for this - which as the article points out, looks indistinguishable from the A6 - Audi must be laughing all the way to the bank.

Who cares? The LEDs are all this car needs to set itself apart. And while the regular A6 is nothing really athletic, its design is a masterpiece, and the S6 just takes everything to the next level--except performance. Somehow, they made the performance about 10X better. That leads me to believe that they could've done much more with the standard A6 but decided not to (à la the S5 not reaching its full potential to make room for the RS5).

EXACTLY! That's what makes it so desirable ... at least to people interested in a great car. Maybe not so to folks like you who are more concerned about making an impression.

sixxfive,
do you have anything else to do than find Audi threads and post stupid comments. should I remind you that the S6 never lost a comparaison with the M5.

who's laughing now?

Your inability to see, face and accept the truth and its consequences might be a sign of your young age and I should forgive you. When you grow older, you might, just might, find the understated beauty of Audis as actually being what some of us are looking for.

But let me remind you that for the ones that want flasy, Audi does offer the RS models, and understatement can take a hike...LOL

for all those wasted words about youth, i imagine takes someone even more crazy, and immature, to think that just because someone doesnt like a car they are immature...that doesnt even sound right. im confused why an s6 would lose a test, every time they compare it, they talk about a huge price advantage. That is what edges other cars out the PRICE. so there in lies the issue, if the RS cars were created to be above the M, and AMG cars, and more like the AMG black series. Than why is the S5 being compared to a 335i, and not the M3, or for that matter why is the s6 compared to the E63, or M5 at all when its main advantage is nothing more than price, and its less performance oriented is what mags say. If that whole rs are above M thing is true like the excuses vw people post, than why isnt the s6 compared to the normal v8 cars. With a 420hp v10, why not compare it to the 360hp 550i, or the 380hp e550, both cars are just as fast the S6, without the bland looks, and are not to far off in price. Odd to compare cars that are above 80 grand, with a 72 grand+ car, and complain about the price of the others, when that car that goes well into the 80's with options but is on par with 60-70 grand cars. logical of course not vw audi

I agree, if we're talking about that picture. But I saw a black one in the city yesterday, and WOW, did it look hot. You've gotta remember that the M5 is equally subtle--I almost miss it every time I see one, especially in darker colors. The same applies to the S6, but not if those LEDs are on.

I just love this car. I like understated performance in a 4 door sedan.

BTW, did anyone notice in the article that this writer still thinks the E63 is supercharged? It really gives me alot of confidence in his opinion.
