Specifically to Budfrog, but to everyone. Proof that Lexus hybrids emits less polution yet give you more power
So i was reading the comments from the article about how all lexus hybrids were catagorized under less fuel efficient. and then budfrog i think said he wanted proof, so here it is...man i have too much free time.
source: Fueleconomy.gov
2007 GS350 vs 2007 GS450h
GS350 combined mpg 22
15.6 barrels of gas used a year
8.3 tons of greenhouse gasses a year
air pollution score of 6 (out of 10)
GS450H combined mpg 23
14.9 barrels of gas used in a year
8.0 tons of greenhouse gasses a year
air pollution score of 8 (out of 10)
2007 RX350 vs 2007 RX400h
RX350 combined mpg 20
17.1 barrels of gas used in a year
9.2 tons of greenhouse gasses a year
air pollution score of 6 (out of 10)
RX400h combined mpg 29
13.2 barrels of gas used in a year
7.1 tons of greenhouse gasses a year
air pollution score of 8 (out of 10)
2008 LS600hl vs 2007 LS460L
LS460L combined mpg 19
18 barrels of gas used in a year
9.6 tons of greenhouse gasses a year
air pollution score no available
LS600hl combined mpg 23
16.3 barrels of gas used in a year
8.7 tons of greenhouse gasses a year
air pollution score not available
www.fueleconomy.gov
so bottom line, (without looking at gas used since most of this is based on 2007 ratings) there is a difference in air pollution score and how many tons of greenhouse gasses the cars emit.
so more power + less emissions = performance car thats better (not best) for the world

Nice comment Buttfrog. You challenge someone to dispute your unfounded statements, demanding proof. Someone pwned you in front of EVERYONE, and all you come up with is that weak copout "you have too much free time."
What a girl.

Man, make a joke and get your head chopped off for it. I still haven't had ample time to check it out. I'm sorry I don't have a job that lets me be on here more than a couple minutes at a time.
Initially, I challenged (really just asked) for more information since I didn't know where to find it. My gratitude for somebody giving me the info was actually genuine. I didn't feel like I got owned because that's not why I come onto this website for.
Apparently you're just an autospies jockey and have time to be on here every other second "owning" people. Maybe you should step up to the plate and contribute something worthwhile.
LKG12 thanks again for the article.
raik, get a life you freakin ass clown.

I was surprised to see that the difference in the GS is a minimal 1mpg.
Lexus relies heavily on marketing to push these things. When you factor in the environmental pollution of their production, the excessively high cost comparable to its gas sibling, and your yearly gas savings you realize that its gonna take a long time before you get your money's worth for the extra "hybrid" badge.

Real life combined mileage on my GS450h has been 26.2. By feathering the throttle I have achieved 32.8 in over 19 miles. If I floor it out of every stop light I get around 22MPG.

i think the point being made overall, the vehicle is better emissions wise for the earth. the gas consumtion of the gs450h is considered very good being that it is considered to have the performance of a v8 but still have the mpg of a v6.
the marketing is right...just failure to interpret the aspects/figures

yeah but in the case of the GS350 versus GS450h you're paying $10k more for 1mpg difference and identical performance, and you're losing half the trunk in the process. And there are other ways to accomplish the same thing, the 335i and 535i accomplish both of those as well (V8 power, I6 fuel economy) again without sacrificing half the trunk. I actually averaged 2mpg better in a 2007 335i than I do in my 2006 330i. And then there's the upcoming turbodiesels... amazing.
There's a reason the has hybrids aren't selling well anywhere but here in the U.S. The rest of the world has alternatives, and they're better.

well you get that extra mile, plus 40 more horses, more exclusivity, all in the same car. your comparison between the 3 series and he 5 series results in two different body styles. what if one persn like the 5 series more than the 3 series.

"well you get that extra mile, plus 40 more horses, more exclusivity, all in the same car."
1. In some cases, exclusivity can be a good thing, but for the GS450h it's not. Lexus wanted this car to be a seller. "Exclusivity" is sometimes used as a disguise for poor sales- this is one of those times.
2. What difference does the 40 extra horsepower make when the BMW is just as fast, as well as offering better handling?
3. You have to pay $6K more than the BMW (535i) for all this.
I'll give you the extra 1mpg. But in some cases, the BMW can also get better mileage.
Similarly to the 535i in the 5 Series family, the GS350 will remain the pick of the bunch. I'd certainly take it- as long as I could get it with the GS450h's wheels (-;

Even with that, you still have to face the extra wieght and small trunk space because of the battery.

the weight problem...the avrg family wont care about that. and the trunk space, that is a real problem that we have to live without until the lithium batteries are safe enough.

The average family WILL care about the additional $35,000 you have to pay to carry around the extra 900lbs of the LS600hL vs. LS460L.
I love the idea of the LS hybrid, but I think it's the worst-executed hybrid to date. I'm waiting for the next generation to be more impressive.

your right, there are EPA ratings then theres real world ratings. but if all cars were rated under EPA, doesnt that mean that all have the same advantage or disadvantage...so all cars would be on the same scale, thus if one car is more fuel efficient on EPA, it will be more fuel efficient in the real world

Lexus, it doesn't if one vehicle radically under/overperforms compared to the rating, which seems to be the case with the LS600h. All the reviews I have seen on that car say the same thing -- no trunk, no faster, same fuel economy, $30k more expensive.

not true lexus guy.
the variances with EPA depend on what kind of engine it has...gas, diesel, hybrid.
to date, hybrids are typically further off from the EPA figures than other engines types.

When you consider the price differences, I would buy a GS350 over GS450h, I would *probably* buy an RX350 over an RX400h and I would DEFINITELY buy an LS460L over an LS600hL. There are just certain negative aspects of the hybrid models (not the least of which being no engine feedback and small trunk space in the sedans), although I'm sure the MPG difference will be more significant in the future.
What I'd really like to see is a diesel LX, LS and GS. That would make so much sense.

i would buy the GS350 over the 450h too. but..i would buy the hybrid RX cause its just an extra like 3 grand now compared to the gas only. plus, there are no sacrifices, and you get VDIM, the better stability control.
yeh...if i had the money, i would buy the 600h just cause its the "best" in the sense that it costs so much. but since i dont have that kinda money to play around with, i would get the LS460L too
