Thane Peterson gets Lexus LS460L to go from 0 to 60mph in 5.4 seconds
For such a big vehicle, the LS 460l is scary fast. Lexus says the regular LS 460 can jump from 0 to 60 in 5.5 seconds but I figured the long version would be slower. I was wrong. The 460l weighs 4,332 lbs, just 88 lbs more than the 460, and it's equally fast. I consistently got 0 to 60 times of 5.4 and 5.5 seconds in the 460l, which about matches the lightening speed of the Mercedes S 550 (see BusinessWeek.com, 5/10/06, "The New S 500: Sportier, Sexier, More Expensive").
Out on the highway, the LS 460l is so quiet and smooth you often find yourself going far faster than intended. When I first started driving the car I found myself going as fast as 110 mph without realizing it. The car felt as smooth and quiet over 100 as it did at 65. Even after (in the interest of avoiding speeding tickets) I began to be more careful, I regularly found myself inching up to 85 or so, unaware that I was going so fast until I glanced at the speedometer. When you have to pass, or accelerate out of a dicey situation on the freeway, you feel confident that this car will perform any reasonable task effortlessly.

That's for sure. I've heard that Mercedes was trying to develop a hybrid system for their S-Class. I wonder how that is going. If they do complete it, the LShL will have some actual competition.

"That's because the Euro version seems to get different gear ratios that make it slower at the expense of better fuel economy."
Not true. Lexus does not bring a different 8-speed transmission here.
Also It s common sense here in Europe that Lexus is for performance, not economy.Have to admit, difference (5.4 in US, 6.3 in EU) is just unjustifiable.

No, the CL's system is different. What it does is, it finds the nearest parking space for you that's suitable for the size of the vehicle. It doesn't actually park for you- but I think this is more useful than that. No, that's not a biased opinion, but I'd rather have the car show me where a space is than for it to turn the wheel for me. I'm able to do that myself, thanks.

"It has to be the final drive ratios"
final drive ratios does not justify difference in 0-60 LS times. That guy got 5.4 in (long version) LS460L.
The same time another European paper cannot
get less than 6.3 sec in the lighter LS460 version... ?
Fabian
"The European BMW 7er and Benz S class are slower than the American 7er and S class."
BMW,MB are slower in EU than in US. But Lexus is same...
This is evidently one more mistification.

No matter what the Lexus LS460 is the best looking car it category. And just wait until the LS600 hl come out, it has over 430+ hp. The Lexus LS600 hl is going to compete with like of RR, Bentley and the Over Price MB Maybach.

no it won't. Lexus will not, ever, compete with Rolls or Maybach. Even BMW and Mercedes don't compete in that arena. BMW owns Rolls and Mercedes owns Maybach. Why? Because they realize they'd never sell a $300k BMW or Benz directly. That price level is reserved for special marques. Toyota, lexus, BMW, and Mercedes are brands. Rolls is a marque. I'm sure Lexus could build a ridiculously nice and expensive car. But when there are $28k IS250's running around with the lexus name on them, you nullify your ability to compete with a marque that sells only $300k+ vehicles.

One look at the Lexus LS460/600 hl and it just scream the best elegant, ultimate lexury, comfort and reliability money can get. Oh! and don't forget the Lexus LS-F to compete with MB AMG, BMW M and Audi RS division. It really funny if you think about it, Lexus has only been around 18 years. And already gaving the German the run for the money. Imagine 5 years from now, Lexus will own the Lexury segment for sure.
Once again Lexus has created a masterpiece with their new and coming Lexus LS600 hl. It will become a collectible item like the RR, Bentley and the over price MB Maybach.

Never.
RR or Bentley buyers aren´t technique freaks.
Somone who buys a RR wants a car with prestige, history and tradition.
He wants something special, and not a mass-produced car
And WHY should someone prefer the Lexus LS?

Saying that I got blank 0-60 time is pointless. You can only do a 0-60 run on a closed track, why not quote a 1/4 mile time as well. Obviously there is very little proof here. And you can't use the speedometer either unlike some Lexus fanboys.

I'd like to know where all these LS460s are selling. 3000 in one month. I haven't actually seen one on the road yet, can't wait.
LS600 has economy of a V6 but power of a V12. If that holds true, the LS will be the leader in every category. This article just proves that Lexus performance numbers are real. Still waiting for someone to test with the 14" brakes though, just to show it will not only match the S, but beat it in stopping distance as well.
Audi will probably respond with a 24 cylinder diesel, and BMW will have to make the propellor even bigger.

Did you just call your favorite car useless? lol.
Anyways you really should spend more time in school instead of this website. Get your grammar problems dealt with because it is horrific. You MUST learn how to spell luxury right not lexury. It makes you look like an idiot trying to back up the LS by claiming it's an RR competitor when you can't even spell the word correctly. But if you truly believe the LS is the ultimate lexury car then by all means. I just don't think it is good enough to be an ultimate "luxury" car.
Just a little note that Jeremy Clarkson compares many cars but not all are in the same class. For example he tested the EVO and the Murcielago. It was value for money because the EVO kept up pretty well. BUT ITS NOT A LAMBO. Same goes for this LS. The LS may be good money for value. Realistically does someone really care about value for money when they look at cars of this type? Do you seriously think someone who owns a RR, Bentley or a Maybach really cares about what they get for their money? They all offer the best luxury in the world.
Just because you heard or you saw Clarkson reviewing those two cars together doesn't mean it's the same class and it don't mean it's just as luxurious.

Lexus,
Haha little boy you need to get it right. This is not elementary. I can't just not like someone over the internet. But it's apparent you know what that's all about. I can't not like you because of this website either. Another thing is why would i even try to get you banned? it's not worth my time. Everyone's entitled to their opinion. Also i don't hate you for being a Lexus fan. I'm actually a fan of the IS and the GS and maybe even the LS when it comes out, but to say the LS is an ultra luxury sedan is ob surd. There is no way Lexus can do a one shot deal trying to leap over it's competition such as the A8, 7 series, and S-Class. I don't think the Lexus team was even thinking about that when they were on the drawing boards. However their fans seem to believe so.
Just because Jeremy Clarkson reviewed an LS alongside an Ultra Luxury Sedan everyone's all thinking Lexus is that far up the scale. It sure does have the pedigree to make an outstanding luxury car no doubt. BUT.. they are not in the league of an RR, Bentley, or Maybach. As much as you say a Maybach is over priced, it inspired the rear seating of the LS600.
A potential buyer of this market will not think anything is overpriced. They know the brands they are eying down are exclusive. That's what the big bucks get you(prestige, heritage, status, top notch luxury). The LS i doubt will be exclusive. The LS itself is for the mainstream luxury buyers. You know deep inside that is correct. The pricing can not be more than the S-class line up. There is no way in hell Lexus would be stupid enough to raise the price pass 200K or anywhere near 200K because no one will buy a 200K Lexus period no offense.

Matt, and Agent63, why don't you two stop kissing each other ass for once;)
No Agent63, it is stupid people like you and Matt, hurt the German and American auto industry. If it a Japanese car you think it inferior, that it not good enough. The German the U.S. automaker think the same you two do. That Japanese will never make a true sportcar, now look at the Lexus F-divison. Nissan bring back the Nissan Skyline GT-R; Honda bring back the NSX. And how Lexus will not sale a car for close to or at $100k. Just look the new LS460L close to $100K. How do you know that Lexus will not sale a vechicle at $200 or over $200k?
Eventually Lexus will create a super ultra Luxury car to compete with RR, MB over price Maybach and Bentley. You just cannot live with the fact that Lexus making car that is superior than the German.
And last but not least, you two seem to be angry at my post, are both of you having a Period right now? I mean if you're having a PMS right now, I will to be nicer;)

you have to realize that time has change, people are more willing to accept Lexus as luxury car. People now has accept Lexus has the same league as BMW, Audi and MB. Remember when it first came out, everyone make fun of them. But look at them now, just gave it some more time.
To say Lexus will never reach a certain status is wrong. Just look at the Audi R8 it already been compare to the Ferrari and Lambo brand. No offense, Audi is no where near Ferrari and Lambo in status, but that is just my opinion. Yes! I Audi own Lambo now, it still does not matter. It a matter of opinion and preference.

Lexus,
Okay this is just getting ridiculous. You're obviously not reading what i'm trying to say. I already stated that i'm a avid car fan in other threads and Lexus is one on my list. I also stated that Lexus can't just leap over it's competition thinking too far ahead. Sure in 10 years make an ultra luxury saloon but as of right now, they need to concentrate on it's direct competition. That would be the Big III from Germany. On another note they would not be using the LS to compete against the ultra luxury segment. Instead they will probably have to create a new model or Toyota having to create a new brand and image. As you can see i'm not talking trash about Lexus. Can you slow your roll and learn to understand? Like you said, give Lexus time, they will make some great moves in the future.
The R8 is a beautiful car. It has much pedigree from it's S/RS lines so it has the breed to make such a car. Lexus will have to do lots of testing to ensure they will not miss anything that's required in a sports car. Toyota made an awesome Supra in the 90's so they are capable. Once again Lexus needs time to develop.
Do you understand that now? Just watch who you call stupid especially when you're not reading what I have to say correctly. I'm not only a European car fan. I'm also a Japanese one too.

Now, J. Clarkson all of a sudden compares the LS460 to a Rolls Royce or Bentley, and what happens? The Lexus fanboys praise Jeremy Clarkson and cite him as their new guru. What BS.

Lexus is superior technology wise, but not image wise. A car stuffed to the max with technology does not equal prestige or heritage.

Bill, If Lexus enters that race, they will compete effectively. Lexus does not equal "a car stuffed to the max with technology". They refine and research what pleases their type of customer and make an unparalleled product for their fan base, which is huge and growing. Our cars excel at embodying what Lexus designers identify as their core values and Dna, and that is simple to use, seamless luxury. If Lexus builds a RR competitor, it will sell very well, regardless or your perception of heritage, or your belief that your perception of what constitutes heritage is important.

the car will not sell well if they try to do it. I have no doubt they can make a car that can compete, but it will never sell. No one looking at a RR/bentley would look twice at the lexus.

Well Bill. Did I praise Jeremy Clarkson when I said "Go blame him..."?
Why do you attack me?

Did I attack you? I don't think so. I agree with Le Mans Guy that you seem to be a pretty open minded Lexus fan. It's trolls like 2JSoarer and Lexus I can't stand.

"Did I attack you?"
Well, It was me who said about Clarkson...though I didnt praised him, neither any lexus fan did...
So, wasnt it you that characterized me retard with mentally issues?
Anyway I think those expressions dont suit here. But if this is common atittude, then I should leave this forum. I suppose we need some respect here, even if we disagree.

It appears the comments of "Flynn" have been removed.
That's a shame.

hey. dont just keep giggling about lexus because if you are comparing it to maybach and rolls royce you are in a big mistake. this car looks ugly and those selv parking what ever comes in japan and america they dont come where i line in uae so just stop talking about features you take from mercedes such as the pre-safe oh my god how lexus are stupid they cant even make a system or anything new and all of that and the information up is write but to 60miles not to 62, the mercedes can reach 62 miles in 5.4 sec and the lexus in 5.7 i think, and what do you think about s450 engine which is 4.6litre and produces 340 hp against the lexus ls460, do u know that the mercedes s450 can reach 62 miles in 5.9 sec not as mentioned up there 6.3 sec ... so it competes with the ls460 i think and the mercedes isnt yet the s600 biturbo engine but the lexus used ls600h and its performance ohh well its like a corolla 1.3 xli to the mercedes 830 newton meter... ohhh and about the ls600 it competes with the maybach and rolls royce hahahaha i dont hink sooo dude because it hasnt 5 percent of there features and its not as luxury as they are and its a lexus, who in the world can compare the name of lexus to a maybach is is jeremy clarkson haha he is a sick person and he is going to die so soon i think so if u compare any lexus to german cars dont think what ever they do they will do they will be last and that all what i hav to sa for all of lexus fans if you want to compare lexus to any car dont think of german cars please............

Whatever thinks anyone about anything. Can you give an explanation about 5.4 sec 0-60 LS460 Long version vs 6.3 sec 0-62 LS460 regular version?

Firstly, 6.3s 0-62mph is roughly equal to 5.8, 5.9s 0-60mph.
Secondly, maybe the slower driver is impotent or intends to do so, or who knows.

When I think of integrity and cutting edge technology in automotive acceleration tests, Businessweek is the first magazine that comes to my mind.

All I can say, the LS rocks in all areas when considering a lexury car. If sporty feeling is brought up, then just put some damn bigger tiers on this monster and adjust the suspension and you have a true leader in that area as well.

Actually Lexus more than 2 accounts. I don't know why he does it but he's obviously very young and immature. Just let him be.
