The 2007 Subaru Impreza S-GT (WRX), Test Drive
Conclusion:
So...what to think about this new Impreza S-GT, the equivalent of a WRX in Europe and the USA? Some will certainly have a hard time dealing with the new style of this Rally Monster but once behind the wheel, this Subaru remains a Subaru and I have to admit that I enjoyed driving it more than I did looking at it...and isn't that the most important?!? A couple modifications and parts from the Subaru Tecnica International catalog could pretty easily turn this nice family hatchback into a hotlap threat for all those who are looking for sensations...on a private race track of course!
For the others, all the skepticals concerned by the arrival of a diesel engine and other « not so sporty looking things », I'd tell them that Subaru is still alive and in a couple months, I'll do my best to grab as much informations as possible on the TRUE WRX Sti which will be presented in October 2007 at the Tokyo Auto Salon! The Impreza now uses the EXACT same pushbutton ignition as an LS 600hL. That really bothers me.

Does anybody else find that this is wrong (C'mon Lexus fanboys... fess up! A knowledgeable car buyer who is aware of these things will be a little unnerved by this parts sharing).

I am a big Lexus fan but find this appauling.

Oh, and PS... those power side-view mirror buttons on the Subbie are the exact same as the ones on my 04' Corolla.

My Camry XLE has the same exact options as well....who cares? It's an f'ing sporthatch. What did you expect?

The pre-'02 Impreza 2.5 RS was the best Subaru Impreza ever made IMO. I plan on buying one for a winter vehicle.

If you didn't notice, I was just pointing out the fruition of the relationship between Subaru and Toyota, hence the same buttons shared between Toyota's, Subaru's, and even $110k USD Lexus'.

who cares, what is so prestigious about a lexus....people that buy them i obviously could care less, they share engines, platforms, and other things with toyotas why is a subaru with lexus parts anything to care about

i can't believe all the whining about how the older generation cars were so much better than the new one. Two years ago everyone was bitching about the grille on the WRX and complaining how Subarus were ugly compared to the competition.

Anytime a car manufacturer decreases weight, increases both size and useability, clean up the interior a bit, and re-tune the suspension for even greater performance, then they deserve a big round of applause. Congratulations to Subaru for offering a better WRX!

PS - This is the best looking WRX yet, especially when viewed from the driver's seat -- the only view that really matters.

A $15K car with a $30K drivetrain. No thanks, I will take a much more rounded package like the Mazdaspeed 6, A3, VW GTI or even Subaro's own Legacy GT.

Damn why does everything have to be "LEXUS, LEXUS, LEXUS!" Geez come off it already. Someone buying a Subaru is not likely going to shop at Lexus. Damn folks, apples to apples when comparing cars. Hell if this was a Kia Road Test, someone would scream "LEXUS!" People on here have made intelligent blogs of the past just that, a thing of the past on autospies.

I don't like the front of this car. To me it looks like it could be the front of the Impreza before the last one that was just out. It has a very 90's feel to it. Already feels old looking when it is brand new. Sad Subaru, Sad. I loved the old WRX, thought it was sheer fun to sling around the curves. And it looked the part, even with its strange headlights. This is boring, bland. Who cares if it feels a bit more luxurious... the old WRX is truly dead

Anyone notice that the ripped off the "shoulder" line from the a pillar to the c pillar from the new BMW 3-series? (The one that runs just along the door handles) They also ripped off the new 3 series tailights - ONLY on the inside of each tailight, the triangular shape has the exact same lense/shape as the bimmer.

Subura is unfortunately relying on derivatives of other cars due to the negative press they've recieved on the past 2 designs...which is very Hyundai/Kia-esq.

As for the car, a Mazdaspeed3 can run with it to 0-60 (maybe even beat it, C&D got 5.4 to 60 in the speed3, not sure what this new dubx does) Less the AWD of course, although, the fit and finish is much more refined in the Mazda then the subie.

I dont think it looks bad, it just doesnt have much of an identity (other than its awesome performance).

Have you seen the character line on the previous generation Dodge Caravan? That is the EXACT same character line that you are talking about that the 3 series "founded" from "the ground-up"! Please!
