0-100 the Z06 smokes it... interesting. Apparently the GT-R (Truly Awesome) has crazy boost at launch and tampers off. Will be no competition when the ZR1 comes out...BUT GT-Rs big brother is coming too!

If this car wasn't 600lbs. overweight it would be an awesome Supercar. Another slanted article about the fantasy car. I think my mom was driving the ZO6, look at her reaction time for braking. She also tend to bog a bit off the line. How about the ZO6 lap times? The GT3 on the Street? The Audi in a straight line? I bet the GT-puffy-R could out corner S-class Mercedes. So What!

The GT-R has had almost 40 years of racing experience(1969 was the first year). Many of the engineers who worked on the previous versions, worked on the new GT-R. Which means close to 40 years of engineering and racing expertise helped create this car. Car enthusiasts like Jeremy Clarkson and Tiff needle loved the previous versions of this car. Clarkson rated the R34GTR 8th on his 100 greatest car of all time.

Besides if you guys are wondering how the previous version of the GTR (34)stacked up against the 911 turbo and the previous version of the corvette z51. Check out this video
PORSCHE 911 vs FERRARI vs CORVETTE Z51 vs R34 GT-R

http://youtube.com/watch?v=ttvv8tw3W9s

as you can see, nissan and porsche have been battling it out for awhile. Whereas the current corvettes are successes on the world stage (recent thing C6,Z06) their predecessors were considered less then satisfactory. So really, its the corvette who has something to prove (which it has with the new versions, winning lemans etc)

We will see. I am skeptical that this car is going to hold together, Nissans track record on simple cars is bad enough. I want to see tests with cars that are not massaged prototypes. In a year we will know if the GT-R is the real deal. We heard alot of hype about the 350Z and it has been a disappointment.

Did you not read the article, the GT-R featured in the article was personally imported from Japan, in which the GT-R is already being sold. There are no prototypes. The 350z has been meant with praise from numerous automobile mags and media. Fifth gear liked it, Top gear liked it (except clarkson who hated its interior), hell even evo liked it, read there review

You won't have to wait for the Martians. Ahmadinejad has been baiting America for the last couple of years with weekly announcements on how they are ramping up their uranium enrichment program and how Israel should be wiped off the map and this last weekend some of Bush's top Generals advised him that it would be "folly" to go to war with Iran now. So why was my comment about Asian countries' racist immigration laws deleted? Because it's undeniably true? Oh right, everyone knows that you can only talk about *whites* being racist even though almost all white countries have liberal immigration laws and almost all (all?) non-white countries have very restrictive immigration laws? So how many foreigners gained citizenship in Japan, South Korea, China or Saudi Arabia last year. A few dozen in total maybe?

You have to be careful because when a society gets stupid and delusional and starts making decisions based on their delusional beliefs rather than fact it eventually ends up with a high crime rate and a low high-school graduation rate and a country that loses half a million manufacturing jobs each year and whose oldest and largest manufacturing companies teeter on the edge of bankruptcy and one that has $14 trillion in mortgage debt and $900 billion in credit card debt and that soon won't be able to pay for it social programs because they became blind and foolish and transformed their country into a delusional society built on political correctness and lies.

Delusional: Believing something contrary to the *facts*.

“This fiscal gap translates into an IOU of about $455,000 for every American household. In other words, our government has made a whole lot of promises that it will be hard-pressed to keep without increasing taxes to levels far beyond what the American people have tolerated historically. By refusing to make tough choices and by charging up the nation's credit card, we are mortgaging the future of our children and grandchildren.”

“I believe the need to act is so critical that I have chosen to resign my position as Comptroller General of the United States to become the CEO of the newly created Peter G. Peterson Foundation. The Peterson Foundation will seek to raise public awareness and aggressively advocate sound policy solutions to a number of key sustainability issues, including entitlement programs and our nation's health care system.”

“ The next president, whoever he or she may be, must make fiscal discipline a top priority and use the bully pulpit to push reforms. If this happens, we can meet our sustainability challenges head on, keep America strong and avoid the kind of economic and political decline that beset another great republic — *Rome*.”

As for negative comments about the GT-R the only reasons evo could come up with was its thirsty, has small legroom in the back, the badge not being prestigious and not turning heads like a supercar. All of which is a good thing, since the badge will filter out all the car snobs, it'll leave the car to the real enthusiasts who recognize a good car when they see one.

There really no denying now what the GT-R is capable of, and to think it still had its speed limiter from Japan on. Both of these cars were barely broken in before the tests began against press prepped cars. To think, in the UK the GT-R starts at around the same price as the M3, unbelievable.

Yeah, I've already read an article that claims to have confirmed that the ZR1 will have some type of launch control.

Interesting decision Z06 or GT R. As its been said already, both best values in the sportscar class. Z06 would probably win a rolling drag race, it also offers the true manual, and the ability to swing the tail out.
But, the GTR is IMO gorgeous easier to drive fast and would probably win on the track. Very tough decision.

Great work Nissan! A fantastic car at an excellent price. Another argument for "competition improves the breed". This should send Porshe, Audi and others back to the drawing boards and test tracks! Always hard to catch up though as we have seen in the sports sedan wars (M3 vs ISF vs RS4 etc...) since as the article states Nissan already is working on other variants.

Porsche 1-2-3 sweep at the 2008 American Le Mans Series opener at Sebring

The top three finishers were all Porsche P2 prototypes, the No. 3 Corvette C6R easily won the GT1 class and Porsche 911 GT3 RSR's took first and second in the GT2 class.

Porsche wins 12 Hours of Sebring
Associated Press

Updated: March 16, 2008, 2:00 AM EST

Porsche ended a 20-year drought at Sebring International Raceway on Saturday, ending Audi's eight-year overall winning streak with a surprising victory in the Twelve Hours of Sebring.

Driving the Roger Penske-owned Porsche RS Spyder, Romain Dumas of France took the checkered flag 12.9 seconds ahead of the Acura ARX-01B of Adrian Fernandez and Luis Diaz, both of Mexico. However, the second-place Acura was later excluded from the results after failing the stall test during postrace inspection.

That gave Porsche a 1-2-3 sweep of the podium.

Timo Bernard of Germany and Emmanuel Collard of France drove the winning Porsche with Dumas. It was the first overall Sebring for all three drivers.

With Acura's exclusion, second place in the season-opening American Le Mans Series race went to Butch Leitzinger of State College, Pa., who shared a Dyson Racing Porsche RS Spyder with Marino Franchitti of Scotland and Andy Lally of Dacula, Ga. Dyson teammates Guy Smith and Chris Dyson drove the third-place Porsche RS Spyder.

The top three finishing Porsches were P2 prototypes, which are less powerful than the P1 prototypes such as the Audio R10 TDI diesel of Tom Kristensen of Denmark, Allan McNish of Scotland and Rinaldo Capello of Italy that overcame an early penalty and brake problems to finish fourth overall and first in P1 - Audi's ninth straight class victory at Sebring. The top four cars finished on the lead lap.

The last overall Porsche victory at Sebring was in 1988 when Klaus Ludwig and Hans Stuck drove a factory Porsche 962 to victory, the last of 13 straight Porsche wins. Porsche increased its record to 18 overall victories in the 56-year history of the 12 Hours of Sebring.

Penske became the first team owner to win the Daytona 500, Indianapolis 500 and 12 Hours of Sebring.

"Two times last year I was put in the last stint to try to catch the leaders," Dumas said. "This time, I was given a car with the lead and I managed to hold onto it. We're especially proud to give this victory to Roger Penske."

Johnny O'Connell of Flowery Branch, Ga., became the career Sebring victory leader with his seventh win. O'Connell won the overall title in 1994 and Saturday's win was his sixth class victory. He teamed with Ron Fellows of Toronto and Jan Magnussen of Denmark to easily win the GT1 class in their No. 3 Corvette C6R.

The GT2 class victory went to the all-German team of Jorg Bergmeister, Wolf Henzler and Marc Lieb, who finished 13th overall in their Porsche 911 GT3 RSR and three laps ahead of Flying Lizard Motorsports sister car of Darren Law of Phoenix, Seth

The American Le Mans Series race was expected to be a diesel duel between Audi and Peugeot, but all three diesel-powered prototypes were beset with mechanical problems.

Peugeot dominated the first two hours but fell victim to hydraulic problems that dropped the French prototype 25 laps behind the front-running Audi R10 TDI Diesel at the halfway point.

Nicolas Minassian of France grabbed the lead on the first lap and led for 44 laps before pitting. He built a lead of up to 56 seconds aided by a stop-and-go penalty against Capello for avoidable contact with another car that landed Capello and the entire Audi Sport team a two-race probation. Losing the overall lead for only two laps during a flurry of pit stops, Pedro Lamy of Portugal led 40 more laps in the Peugeot 908 that was making its debut in the United States before pitting with a gearbox problem related to a failing hydraulic system that cost the Peugeot 908 team 13 minutes in the pits.

Later, the Peugeot team spent another 48 minutes in the paddock working on the hydraulic system again, and when they finally rejoined the race they were 25 laps behind the Audis. The Peugeot 908 finished 12th overall and fourth in P1, 33 laps behind.

The second Audi R10 of Lucas Luhr, Mike Rockenfeller and Marco Werner, all of Germany, had turbocharger problems and finished seventh overall and second in P1 class.

Its easy to write a biased writeup on these cars. First the GT_R has 60hp and 110 lbft od torque on the R8 so any comments regarding how "easy" it pulled away from the Audi are biased. They can be subjective all they want on the "Feel" of the car but the fact is these cars are not in the same power category.
I may take the GT-R over the Z06 just because of the AWD but its hardly a match in style and prestige as an Audi R8, Porsche 911 or Lambo. The new GT-R is a great car but the design has moved away from its original. Now, it simply looks like an Altima on Steroids.
My choices, from best to worse;
Audi R8
Porsche 911 GT3
Lambo Gallardo
GT-R
Z06

That was pretty decent but jeez, do the Brits have to take every opportunity to trash the Vette ("flimsy start button" "simple engine")? I know all about tactile feel and all that, but dang, the Vette weighs what, 3,200 pounds? Some parts are going to be flimsy, dude. And I'll bet none of the writers can fix, let alone diagnose, a problem with that "simple" engine.
Off the soapbox. The GT-R appears to be an amazing performance car.

Congrad's Nissan! What a spectacular car the GTR is. The Z06 and GTR both represent the best super car values today. WOW what bargain performance. (if you can get either one at MSRP).

It will be interesting to see what you'll really be able to buy a GTR for.

The only knock I have with the GT-R is how drivers are afraid to blow the drive shaft. Is that a real issue using Launch Control??? I wish someone would do several LC runs and see if the drive shaft will give...hmmm?

Z06 was the nearest competitor for #'s but I still prefer the Porsche for heritage and driving fun!

*Again the GT-R does not reach 3.3 0-60. I have a feeling that Edmunds got a car full of very high octane or something was up....

There actually a number of reasons. First off the cars in the video were barely broken in, second the test done by edmunds was during a cold day at a high altitude, which actually helps turbos if im not mistaken. Thirdly the type of octane put in the car matters, to get the full hp of the car I think the highest octane is required. There been some worries about the US launch, since some states don't actually carry the high octane required for the GT-R or is rare to come by.

Cold air will help a turbo, but the thinner air will hinder it.

An excellent barometer of the performance level of all of these great cars, however, everyone who knows racing, understands that different racetracks can enphasize differnet attributes of a car. The west circuit is a relatively small, tight track. For instance, Car and driver did a comparison that they call "the lightning lap". On this longer track, 4 plus miles, the Zo6 was much quicker than the R8.

The dyno tests measure horsepower at the wheels so if the GT-R is making 400 plus hp at the wheels, then the engine is most likely making 500 plus. The previous GTR skylines all were underated, so I wouldn't be surprised if the new one was too.

Exactly,

M3 is the shit, by far the best in the segment.

BUT, it would get killed by a M3.

See the difference is, the Lex fanboys (MichealTaylor, autopro, GoObama, silver1) are idiots. They said from day 1 the IS-F is a Lexus killer.

I will give you money if you can find a post of a BMW fan saying the M3 will beat a GT-R.

Just because the M3 kills the IS-F by 4.4 seconds, doesn't mean it will beat a GT-R.

I'm a Nissan fan. I love the performance becuase I'm a performance junky, but honestly as far as looks, it's the worst of the bunch. I wasn't too sure about the Audi either, but I saw one the other day...it's hot. Maybe, I'll change my mind when I see it in person. It looks like a Japanese attempt of redesigning an American muscle car.

Trust me I went to the auto show, and the car looks a whole lot better in person. I wasn't really convinced by the pictures on the internet, until I saw it in person. It has presence, its big, muscle, aggressive looking.

Really to sum up the impression of GTR by EVo magazine, i have taken several of their important quotes. And you can judge for yourself, why there is nothing on Earth like the GTR in the world today. Think about it, if a GTR can win the battle against all these magnificent cars like the 991 GT3, Audi R8, and Z06 and still cost about 65 grand(base price), I am willing to pay even one hundred thousand dollars to get this car, really the reputation of this car has exceeded the masters. So take a look at the following quotes and decide for yourself if GTR is worth your 80 grand value that Nissan has promised to keep in the US: to be frank I think it is a bargain at that price, i am sure in Europe people will be willing to pay around 100 grand for this "new performance Icon"

GTR vs Z06
"The GTR feels every bit as ferocious as the Z06"

0-100-0 KPH
Z06-14 sec
GTR-13.9 sec

GTR vs Audi R8

"For the first time Audi's 4.2 liter V8 feels weedy"

"The DCT gearbox(of GTR) is a key part of the experience"

"There is no millimeter of slack in the GTR leaving you feeling completely connected"

"The R8 is still a fantastic drive and still a car in terms of feedback but it can't match the high tech GTR's on road pace"

GTR vs GT3

"You get addicted to the Nissan's blinding pace"

"There is no shortage of excitement managing the GT3's rear end but the GTR counters with sheer speed"

Final Judgement:

"Respect is due, big respect, Nissan has built a new performance icon"

On a different note, I believe one of the reasons why the GT-R is such an all rounder and world beater is because they actually test and engineer there cars around the world. The engineers of the car tested it on Japan's race tracks, European race tracks (nurburgring) and American tracks (Laguna seca). I believe in order for the corvette to be a truly world beater, it should be tested on different tracks around the world.

Another thing I find interesting is people being doubting the GT-R from the get go. I assume most people here are americans, then you guys are late to the skyline party. The previous versions of this car have been track beasts, so much so that this car was being unofficially imported to Europe, the middle east, australia, and parts of asia. True car enthusiasts (not badge enthusiasts)have known about this car previous predecessors. If anything this new GT-R has had to live up to the hype of its ancestors, not beating the ZO6,R8,GT3,M3,TURBO, all of which is just icing on the cake.

Now with that being said, for all of your enjoyment I present to you Best Motoring pitting the GT-R against the Lambo SL, GT3, 911Turbo, and NSX-R
