BMW may be creating niche products like the X6 and that 5-Series wagon/hatchback thing, but I think their management is smart enough to realize that the 3-Series, X5, and 5-Series are their bread and butter vehicles and not to mess with success.

From the reviews so far, the Genesis Coupe looks extremely promising. However, I still think the consumers shopping for it vary drastically from the BMW consumer. Simply said, they are in two different markets.

I think this is a great looking car, but I also think Hyundai is going to attract a different type of buyer than BMW does, they really aren't in the same class in the least. This is going to be more competition for the Import Tuner Crowd in my opinion. Excited to see one in person though, it really does look quite nice.

I really dont like it. The interior reminds me of an eclipse and the outside styling is tiresome to me. I still looks really cheap.

I think the Genesis Coupe is a great car but I dont think the Genesis Coupe is a threat to the 3 series in the slightest. It is good looking other than the grill, but the G37 is much closer in character to the Genesis Coupe than the 3 series is. The 3 series coupe alot more expensive than the G37, let alone the Genesis, and the interior is nowhere near that of a 3 series it kinda reminds me of the first generation G35 coupe if anything else

It not only competes but already defeated Infiniti in the edmunds comparison test. It shows new Hyundai is really good. My answer to the headline/question asked is yes. BMW should work hard and raise the bar again, most of the competitors have already reached their performance level and soon will cross them. They already cost way less.

Thats just it and this is what seperates BMW from the G37 in the first place the 3 series is more than just about performance times(which also happen to be better than the G37 by the way) The 3 series is also about luxury and refinement, and while the G37 coupe is certainly leaps and bounds better in this regard than the G35 was it still isnt quite there yet. The same goes for the Genesis it isnt chasing the 3 series it is chasing the G37 and in my opinion has what appears a much better looking G35 coupe. Edmunds tested the 2 and said that the G37 does everything better just not as good as the price difference, if the 335i has beaten the G37 large price difference withstanding the Genesis as of now is no threat to it at all. The A5, CLK, and 3 series coupe are not in the same class as these cars hence the price difference, and interior quality difference. The G is certainly the closest in "driving dynamics" to the 3 series but otherwise the boat stops there. Let alone the Genesis

and not to mention this is my point all the competition is focusing is being cheap and having performance numbers that are close, and voila they think they are a luxury sports coupe lol not in the slightest. Maybe if we are comparing "sports cars" performance numbers is all that matters but if price is the biggest driving factor why not buy an STI, or EVO why waste your time with either of these cars. Or even the Z,RX8 Camaro, or Mustang would be a better choice if performance and low price are so important because than you arent paying for the luxury but just performance. Who buys a luxury car because its cheap, and fast there is a segment for those cars.

BMW should not worry, just like Infiniti should not worry. As many have stated, this car is going to draw a different market than the G37 or 3 series. The G and 3 are in the same class and are direct competitiors. The Genesis competes with the Eclipse, Mustang, Camaro, Soltice. It is a nice car, but in the end, it does not and can not compete with the G37 and 3 series.

I've got a Ferrari enthusiast friend who doesn't care for either BMW or Infiniti but gave the Genesis coupe very kind words. Says it's got soul and that he couldn't believe it's a Hyundai.

BMW shouldn't be worry. It's completely in different league/market. But given it attractive price, turning ability and performance, I can see other brands in similar price and performance range should be having nightmares.

There is no need to blow anything out of proportion...

The same comparison that could be made has pretty much already been summed up by Edmunds. The G37 and 335i both drastically out perform the Genesis, have much more amenities, and better ride quality.

The bottom line at the end of the day is, how much are you willing to spend. The value you get from the Genesis is phenomenal, yet at the same time, the car is too new to really know what kind of reliability it may have in the future, and it carries the reputation of a company that does not have the best track record.

Personally, I think the ones that should be scared are Ford and Mazda.

Why does Mazda need to be scare? The RX-8 offers superior handling to any BMW and can be had for only 27K or maybe less. Hyundai's advantage over Mazda or Nissan in pricing is minimal especially when a 370Z is starts at $29,930 msrp. But the Hyundai's low grade interior, under performing and unrefine road manners makes it seem overpriced.

If you have actually sat in the car, the seats are way nicer than the ones in the G-Coupe. Sure you don't a HDD or Nav or Dual-Zone Climate control, but you do get a brutal car at a not so brutal price.

And if you think an RX-8 will outperform a 335i, you are sadly mistaken. The 370Z is a 2-seater so isn't even in the same class, and the Mustang is just a POS.

Badgewhore, did you even read the original article? The Hyundai was applauded for its handling, performance, and refinement! It just wasn't as near-perfect as the G37. We wouldn't be having this conversation if it couldn't compete.

Ford and Mazda should absolutely be scared. Same HP in the Mustang V6 as in the Gen. Coupe I4, more HP in the Gen. Coupe V6 than in the Mustang V8. Better gas mileage, better suspension, better styling (IMHO), etc. Plus, Mazda's RX-8 would only compete with the I4 Gen. Coupe.

And Mazda doesn't necessarily make better quality. I own a 2003 Mazda and it's falling apart. I've had several problems with it - the tranny fell out at about 65K miles. Tell me that ain't a mess! If I'd bought a Hyundai instead (which I did cross-shop) it'd probably be running better with fewer problems . . . and I'd still be under warranty.

And I'm pretty sure Edmund's is the only reviewer to not achieve 6 secs to 60. They're consistently the slowest in 0-60 times.

Btw: the Nav. option comes out in a couple months. It's just not available right now.

It's pretty amazing that the Genesis coupe is able to keep up with an Altima coupe 3.5 considering some people on this site think Nissan is inferior to Hyundai (cough, cough, GT-R).

It's funny to see how the desperate Infiniti fanboys keep trying to associate their lowly brand with the mighty BMW in an attempt to suggest that Infiniti plays with the big boys while Hyundai is just a lowly brand. LOL.
Can't you not see that all the comparisons are only between Hyundai and Infiniti? Nobody mentioned BMW in any of these comparisons and that's because BMW has no place next to garbage like Infiniti and Hyundai.

Brands like Porsche, Mercedes, BMW are not to be associated with Asian trash like Hyundai, Infiniti, Kia, Suzuki. Remember that.

as a bmw badge whore, i have a difficult time even getting into a g37, but at the end of the day realize its a better car dollar for dollar than the 3 series, Hyundai, not even close !!!

This is getting kind of pathetic now. I will start back to reading these comparisons when they start comparing the Genesis coupe to its real competition of the Eclipse, Mustang, Soltice, etc. To try and put this car in the same arena as the G37 and 3 series makes no since, but oh well, I guess it brings in more hits on the site! Hyundai did a good job of evolving the Tiburon and giving it RWD, but as a car enthusiasts, I am not falling for it. Sorry but a sport coupe that does not make it to 60 in under 6 seconds, I don't think so.
