While the recipe for the 2008 Volkswagen Fahrenheit GLI is essentially the same as its GLI sibling's -- the 2.0-liter turbo four-banger and sport-suspension main ingredients are identical -- there's something about the taste of this screaming yellow sedan that's just a smidge better.

During a recent track day run at the Streets of Willow circuit near Los Angeles, the Fahrenheit's rev-happy engine (used across the VW/Audi model range) responded with no sign of lag. Even with temperatures at nearly 100 degrees, er, Fahrenheit and the air-conditioning set to "Arctic tundra," the 2.0-liter's 200 horsepower and 207 pound-feet of torque continued to come on strong during our "hot" laps.

The car's stiff suspension setup helped it eat up Willow's corners and manage the predictable understeer. While the six-speed gearbox supplied quick and precise shifts, the brakes fell short: The 12.3-inch front/11.3-inch rear discs provided adequate stopping power, but only after the pedal traveled almost halfway into the floor.
