The Mercedes Car Group of DaimlerChrysler AG saw its pretax profit nearly double in the second quarter, the German-American automaker said today.
The company said the Mercedes unit earned $1.65 billion in pretax profit in the second quarter. Second-quarter sales rose slightly to $17.26 billion.
The company did not report results from the Chrysler Group and Chrysler Financial because of their impending sale. DaimlerChrysler provided no update on the deal.
