Europe's largest car maker Volkswagen said it was recalling 340,000 cars in the United States because of a headlamp defect.
The recall action applied to Jetta and Rabbit models manufactured in Mexico, a company spokesman said.
Some of the headlamps may be missing rubber caps in the sockets of the low beam horizontal and vertical aiming screws, the automaker said.
US federal safety standards require that such caps be fitted.
The spokesman said there was no danger to drivers, but motorists could have the missing part replaced, beginning in October.
