The 645ci is actually our favorite of the current crop of BMW's that are for sale in the USA.
Our issue with this review is who ever thought the 645 wuld actually be a head to head competitor with a 911?
We think its direct competition is the SL, SC430, XK and CLK.
The 645/650 is the drivers car compared to the others and next to the SL, has the best design and mystique.
I think this reviewer miss the point of the 645.
We would love to hear your comments.
Review:
There was a time when BMWs were lean, athletic, fairly simple cars -- the near perfect blend of high performance, utility and restrained elegance. Those days apparently are gone. The BMW 645Ci is a case in point.
Don't get me wrong. I adored the car, a cabriolet in posh deep-blue garb. It was solid, comfortable and hugely powerful. It turned heads wherever I drove -- sadly, teenage boys were the most enthusiastic admirers -- and made me want to be stinking rich.
With a base price of $109,000, rising to $117,400 with "Executive Package" goodies such as 19-inch wheels and "active steering" (whatever that is), rich, if not stinking, is the requisite status to have before you buy.
But athletic and simple, forget it.

The 645 is a big, heavy car that is hard to classify -- sports car, GT or highway cruiser?
From a distance, it looks like a true sports car, with its long, shark-like form, oversized wheels and clean lines. As you move closer, its heft becomes apparent. The car is wide, the leather interior plush, the back seat ample for a convertible. This is no Porsche 911 and it doesn't drive like one.
